Jet-A lingers a long time. At our airport, we have a club room that used to be the maintenance office for a cargo airline. It took a fair amount of air freshener to get the Jet fuel smell out of it.

I have a buddy who used to fly skydivers in a king air. He had a can in the bed of his truck he used to dump his sump samples into. It was great for starting bonfires. Dump a quart or two of Jet-a on the pile of wood, and you had almost an instant fire ;-)

My pilot wife purchased one of these at the pilot shop last week. We are very happy with it and now put the fuel back in the tanks
instead of a gas can we keep in the hanger. A very simple but well designed product.

I use a GATS jar also.

After use, I "seal it" (with as much air removed from the bag) in a 1 gallon "FREEZER" quality zip lock bag. That bag gets re-sealed in another 1 gallon freezer zip lock bag with excess air removed. Stored in nose also.

("Freezer" bags have two sealing zip strips)

One of the things I learned only recently is that JetA doesn't evaporate instantly like 110LL. So if you have a few drops in the nose compartment you will be smelling it for a *really* long time. This also explains why when the line crew overfills the tanks and I happen to step in a TINY puddle I am plagued by the smell for the entire four hour leg following.

I put my fuel tester inside a ziplock bag, which in turn goes inside a plastic jar with lid, which goes in the front baggage compartment of the DA62.

You can't be too careful about avoiding JetA smells inside the cabin of your plane. (I once flew a rental DA42 that always smelled like JetA inside.)

I like it - unlike the GATS jar, you can inspect each sample before combining them. Both have filters for returning the samples to the fuel tank.

Need to find out if it will work on a DA40NG.

In a plastic container in the right forward baggage Compartment.

Dimensions: about 17.8 cm (7”) high, about 7 cm (2.76”) in diameter.

Where do you store the fuel tester after testing?

For those interested, I purchased this week two recently launched but extremely useful and practical items for my DA62.

The first is a MultiSump Fuel Tester - by tipping the first fuel sample catchment container taken from a respective fuel tank, this falls down into the main catch cup reservoir, allowing you to move on to the next fuel tank. The sampling capacity is 8 fuel tanks.

The second is the MultiSump fuel strainer. The micro-fine stainless steel screen removes contaminants and water from fuel samples during pour back to fuel tanks. The high surface tension of water keeps it from passing through the screen while fuel passes freely.

I was always reluctant to put fuel samples back into the tank but this is a brilliant environmentally safe way of returning the samples taken.
