Re: Corked Nose Wheel

Also, don't forget to check the nose wheel pivot tension, which can have an effect on both the "corked nose wheel" problem and the tendency to shimmy on rollout. In my experience, you want to make sure your tension is set to the high end of the allowable range.

Re: MSB for 2017-19 fuel tank connection hoses

It's not just newer planes affected by this SB. I had my (2007) interconnect hoses replaced at my last annual. In fact, one of the invoices listed in the SB is dated during my annual, so I was pretty worried! However, Glenn assures me he has already checked and none of the hoses he used are inculded...

Re: Emergency Battery Pack Location

Remove the glare shield covering the top of the panel, yours should be on the passenger side, on the bottom shelf behind the circuit breaker panel. Be careful, there are two different voltage battery packs that look almost the same, so be sure to check the part number before ordering a new one!

Re: The next stuff

I to thought I ran out of upgrades but decided to go with SureFly electronic ignition and replace my left Mag. Lycoming just announced their own private labeled version (also from Surefly). That will be one less Mag I have to overhaul. Benefit is faster starts and less fuel consumption. I've been t...

Re: You Know You're a Diamond Pilot When ...

You have used that cool trick with the wire insulation to replace a flap indicator bulb. That's one I don't know. ... I forgot the gauge of wire but if you strip some wire and slip the insulation over the bulb and pull, it comes right out. The bulb itself is a very inexpensive part. You strip a cou...

Re: Flap indicator lights

Yeah, I'm betting the left dimmer knob got turned just past the click, leaving the G1000 screens pretty much full on, but dimming the flap lights to nothing. Been there a few times...

Re: G1000 MFD Dark then starts working 10 minutes in flight

OP said he has the KAP140, so his PFD and MFD modules would be identical, except for that one config thing that makes it PFD or MFD (I can't remember where that comes from though - a DIP switch, or the config module, or ???).

Re: Do I have the 17# Ballast?

Not sure if this helps anyone infer what they have in their aircraft, but the aircraft Ian references is my little girl... 40.922, 2008 DA40 XLS, G1000W, PowerFlow, 50 gal tanks, 3-bladed MT prop... and she's soon to be enhanced in a "super" way thanks to Ian and Rod. Wayne, your gal is equipped mu...

Re: DA-40 checkride help

For the G1000 Lycoming DA40's, which I assume is what the OP is taking his check ride in, there are 2 options - standard 40-gal tanks, and 'long-range' 50-gal tanks. Both options have 'gaps' in the fuel gauge display. The 40-gallon DA40's have 2 tanks in each wing - the outer-most tank is something ...
