Re: 2200 or 2400 cruise

Thanks for taking so much time to share all that. No worries, Nick. Glad you found it helpful. But often I cruise higher than that on long cross countries. I often settle for running at peak, which always gets me the smoothest running engine, and cooler CHTS than anything rich of that, a respectabl...

Re: 2200 or 2400 cruise

Chris, when you are running LOP that far, is your motor very smooth? Do you have GAMI injectors? I have a 400 SMOH motor, fine wire plugs, mags tweaked to within a degree, and after a GAMI test with the G1000 spreadsheet was told by GAMI my cylinders all peak too closely for their injectors to help...

Re: 2200 or 2400 cruise

But RPM has very little to do with it. Mostly true. But a common misunderstanding is that reducing RPM is always "easier" on the engine. When Rich-of-Peak, lowering RPM greatly increases stress on the connecting rods and crankshaft. Lower RPM pushes peak cylinder pressure much closer to Top Dead Ce...

Re: Activating Approach

When you receive Clearance is hitting APR key sufficient to activate it? Yes. This arms the glide slope as appropriate. If so what's the purpose of "Activate Approach" on the MFD menu? Initiate a course reversal and take you to a point behind your current position? ;) Pressing "Activate Approach" i...

Re: Garmin GTX345R needs sw upgrade?

Hardware-wise, the GTX345R is wired the pretty much the same regardless of whether it's an add-on to a Legacy G1000 vs. installed in a new aircraft with G1000 NXi. But the certification basis is totally different: When added to a Legacy G1000 , Garmin's GTX345 Approved Model List (AML) includes the...

Re: Quick visit to San Jose: KJSC or KRHV?

I am based at RHV. Depending on where in Sunnyvale you are going and - especially - what time, either RHV, SJC or PAO will work. We live in Cupertino (west of Sunnyvale), but it is usually comparable or faster getting to/from RHV since 101 is often a mess. If you are used to the usual Class C proced...

Re: G1000 Engine Monitoring Data Card

Chris: I've got hundreds of flights on CirrusReports -- how do I "trivially easy" create a composite flight map? Hi Dave - No worries: Select "Flight Log" link near top-left. Select desired date range & click "Go." Click "Google Earth" link in upper right. This generates a KML file. With large numb...

Re: G1000 Engine Monitoring Data Card

IME, the big advantage of CirrusReports.com (now AKA FlightData.com) is trend analysis of engine data across flights. I find this *quite* useful. Savvy is better for detailed analysis of an individual flight, particularly when running GAMI tests. The GAMI "wizard" directly computes results. CirrusRe...

Re: Inexpensive DIY solution to GTX345R Bluetooth problem - with pics

We recently finalized the installation as a minor modification. Consistently "excellent" signal strength, per Garmin Pilot. My tablet connects ~15m beyond the spinner. Cabling unaffected by rear baggage compartment removal or hidden compartment contents. Installation does not require rear seat remov...
