Diamond in NEW MS Flight Simulator

Microsoft surprised everyone by bringing back Microsoft Flight Simulator -- an all-new version was just announced at the E3 gamer's conference last week; it's going to look incredible with 4K resolution and HDR. It will be available in 2020 for PC and Xbox. But the best part is the preview trailer s...

Re: Outdated Garmin G1000 software - petition sign-up

if there was one really important software feature the NXi and other Garmin Systems have* and the legacy systems do not, it would just have to be the visual approach feature The latest software for G1000 NXi "Phase II" hardware (i.e., GIA64Ws, new audio panel, GEA71B) -- recently shipping in new DA...

Re: Running at 90%

168 hp * 92% = 155 hp 155 hp * 100% = 155 hp Both engines output the same max continuous power. The Austro provides 8% extra for takeoffs and go-arounds. Yes, but the Austro has a higher "critical altitude" on its turbo (about 12,000 feet), so it's able to maintain 92% power up to about 16,000 feet...

Re: G1000 MFD Dark then starts working 10 minutes in flight

If your MFD doesn't come on and your #2 radio doesn't work, are you sure you didn't accidentally hit the Essential Bus switch (or have a faulty switch)? Those are 2 of the components that get shut down when the Essential Bus switch is turned ON.

Re: 200lb Useful Load Increase?

Almost any aircraft can be induced to spin if you try hard enough: I learned how to spin a Cessna 172 when working towards my initial CFI certification, but it was very reluctant to do so. In contrast, when flying a Decathlon (designed for aerobatics), all it took was a good kick of the rudder while...

Re: Diamond Owners Being Taken Advantage Of - Maintenance

Last month I was charged 6 hours labor for my 100 hour inspection for each engine (12 hours). As one of the few owners who has experience doing his own 100 hour servicing on Austro engines (DA42 and now DA62), I can say it probably takes me 6 hours total to do *both* engines, each requiring: 1. Dra...

Re: Backup SD cards for your Aspen, Garmin etc

Rather than trying to copy from your original copy-protected SDcards to make a backup, a much easier solution (assuming you have a current bundled PilotPak or OnePak G1000 subscription) is simply to download all the files you've already paid for (from flygarmin.com) onto a 2nd set of SDCards (for le...

Re: 200lb Useful Load Increase?

My understanding of the reason why DA40NGs can have a higher useful load is because Diamond changed the internal structure of the wing stubs (actually part of the fuselage) to accommodate more weight. If they apply this same strengthening to Lycoming DA40s, it would "standardize" production and perm...

Re: G1000 Engine Monitoring Data Card

Chris: I've got hundreds of flights on CirrusReports -- how do I "trivially easy" create a composite flight map? It's also worth mentioning that FlyGarmin.com (where many of you go to get your G1000 database subscription updates) also has a free logbook feature that lets you upload your G1000 log fi...

Re: DA42 Yaw Damper or Just Rudder Trim?

Dan: Pre-2009 DA42s (TDI models originally with Thielert/Continental CD-135 engines) all have KAP-140 autopilots WITHOUT a yaw damper. 2009+ DA42NG and -VI models with Austro Engines have Garmin GFC-700 autopilots WITH integrated yaw dampers. The irony is that the DA40 without a yaw damper IMHO coul...
