Re: Hydraulic Pump Actuating while taxiing
What you describe is unusual in my experience with both a DA42 and DA62 -- the only time I ever heard the pump run was right after initially turning the Electric Master ON before engine start. (Maybe I couldn't hear it run after landing because the engines were running?) If you haven't already done ...

Re: I must be stupid
I do the same as Russ, except that I remove both MFD cards to start: I make sure there's no card in the top MFD slot when I insert the Supplemental Data SD card (with the latest files) into the bottom MFD slot for file upload. As a final step I put the flight logging card back into the top slot at t...

Re: No plans for Diamond GFC 500 autopilot?
The biggest issue is if you allow GFC500 APs in the older DAs, that will devalue the 700 models. Plane and simple. The Garmin autopilots don't compete with each other. The GFC700 is only available as an integral part of G1000/G3000/G5000 flight decks (with autopilot functionality distributed across...

Re: Data Path Failure
I suppose many of us have stories of accidentally shutting down the plane's electrical system in flight. Years ago I was in cruise on an IFR flight from San Diego to Davis, CA in our DA42 with my student-pilot daughter sitting left seat. She dropped something on the cockpit floor, reached down, and ...

Re: G1000 NXi missing RNAV approach
The FAA has thought of that: Do a search for the VOR MON (Minimum Operational Network). You may not be able to land at your intended destination, but you will be able to land without GPS in IMC.

Re: Shutting up the gear warning while OEI
Agree that it's easy, but a windmilling restart requires replacement of your engine's timing chain.MackAttack wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 1:41 amvery easy to get a windmilling restart and the required speed is VERY low.

Re: Transition training included in sale price
It depends on the Diamond distributor from which you purchase your new airplane. The distributor I work with includes transition training at no additional cost for all new aircraft, since we want the new owner to be safe and feel comfortable flying their new aircraft. (I'm often the pilot providing ...

Re: Diamond Fly-in To Sun 'n Fun (KLAL) March 28-April 2, 2023
Planning to land at Tampa Executive due to hotel accommodations. Flying into Tampa Executive KVDF works well when attending Sun N Fun (unless you're camping at KLAL). I learned NOT to fly into Lakeland (KLAL) Airport during the event, because in multiple years the Blue Angels decided to hold unsche...

Re: Recommended 75% cruise vs max 92% cruise
I'm a little puzzled by the "now that Diamond/Austro have eliminated the ability to overhaul Austro engines" comment. When Austro engines were first introduced in 2009, they were sold as having a TBO (time before overhaul), extended to 1800 hours. This was in contrast to Thielert/Continen...

Re: Recommended 75% cruise vs max 92% cruise
I presume you're asking about an Austro DA40NG model, rather than Lycoming. I know of owners who always cruise at 92% because the fuel burn difference is so low (8 gph vs. 6.5gph). If you're not as worried about fuel efficiency, there's not much harm in running at 92% -- it doesn't seem to hurt the ...
