Re: New (to me) Turbulence tool on AWC
It's been on AWC for awhile (although it may have just been on weather.aero before), but I'm glad you posted it. In my experience, I've found the forecast on it to be pretty darn accurate (at least up in the flight levels). It's definitely the easiest way to get an idea of what kind of ride you can ...

Re: High Performance Beringer brakes for DA42!
Agreed! It's already too easy to lock 'em up on landing in a 42. Now if there was an anti-skid system installed....CFIDave wrote:The DA42 doesn't need more effective brakes. The brakes installed by the factory, if anything, are TOO effective.

Re: Auto pilot unwanted action
When you twisted the heading bug, was the bug on your PFD actually moving? As a workaround while you wait on your new PFD, if you want to fly a heading, put the A/P in ROLL mode, use your CWS button and turn to the desired heading and then release the CWS. It should hold the heading for you. I had t...

Re: Transponder Mode During Taxi
I wouldn't expect it to, based on the manual. But it'd be worth someone doing a test. (I no longer have it installed.) From the manual: Automatic ALT/STBY Mode Switching If the GTX 327 is configured with Automated Airborne Determination, ALT mode selection occurs when lift-off is sensed. When the a...

Re: Transponder Mode During Taxi
For me, a better solution is to provide transponder requirement information on ATIS with the default of leaving the system in "Ground Mode" on the ground, unless otherwise specified. At a lot of the airports I fly into that require it to be on during ground ops, they do put it on the ATIS...

Re: Essential Bus -- Audio Panel
Thx, Ben. Just what I was looking for. I've been reluctant during flight to turn Master Off and Essential Bus On. No problem. Actually you don't even have to turn off the master switch. Hitting the ESS bus will disconnect all of the other stuff anyway. If you don't want to try it in flight, then gi...

Re: Essential Bus -- Audio Panel
Intercom does not work. Only pilot side mic mic will work and only on comm 1. I know this from personal experience. Just try it out next time you fly.

Re: Transponder Mode During Taxi
I once had an ASI from the FSDO tell me that I needed to be operating with Mode C while on the surface at ROA (which is a class C airport, but does not require Mode C on the surface). Shortly thereafter, I had a controller at ROA tell me to turn off Mode C while on the ground because it cluttered up...
