Re: DA42 fuel selection

I've missed Greg, there's nothing like an engineer in a discussion. Are you looking at the Cirrus Jet, Greg? Colin, No, its hard to believe almost 14 years have gone by since I placed a deposit on the D-Jet. I am semi-retired now and do not have a business that could support the cost of operating i...

Re: DA42 fuel selection

Turbo-normalized in aviation circles means that turbocharging tries to maintain the same MAP as the engine experienced full throttle at S.L. before turbocharging was added as the altitude increases. Aviation Consumer refers to it this way all the time. Every turbocharged aircraft I've flown maintain...

Re: GAMA Q1 sales: Diamond

Yes the seneca sold squat, but the seminole managed four sales, equally as many as the DA42  I'm just trying to understand how Piper sold four seminoles and Diamond didn't sell eight DA42s? Diamond should own this market and not be simply competing in it. The 62 looks like a great airplane, ...

Re: I flew the DA62 today.

The "sufficiency" of the DA62's single-engine climb rate is for you to decide, but it's worth comparing to other modern light twins. A Baron/Seminole/Seneca twin when losing one engine will "drift down" to about 6000 feet before being able to level off, let alone climb. So at ty...

Re: DA42 fuel selection

Remember, when you shut down the engine in flight, you no longer have any exhaust to drive a turbocharger compressing the intake air. So even with a turbo, ambient air pressure matters for restart of a compression-ignition (i.e., diesel) engine. To answer your second question, DA42/DA62 engines are...

Re: Any DA-42 misfuelings?

Back in February of this year a Piper Mirage flying from Calgary to California stopped in Spokane Washington to clear customs and refuel. The pilot himself misfueled the airplane. The problem with the Malibus and Mirages is that one can only sump the header tanks which are at the wing fuselage root ...

Re: Any DA-42 misfuelings?

Rich, You can do more then just size, you can also do shapes. People are trainable. e.g. extreme oval versus round. As long as it is smaller in diameter then the standard gas cap which is about about 2-3 inches, it will continue to work for the existing/legacy fleet. I would also state there have b...

Re: Pilots Poll: How many hours did you fly in 2014?

Hello Greg! Great to see you pop up. I assume you're going to convert that D-Jet position into one for the DA-62. There isn't any money left from all the D-Jet deposit money that was collected. It was all (10 million USD) spent on development before it was shut down. I was an early deposit holder a...

Any DA-42 misfuelings?

This is a -just out of curiosity - sort of question. I've owned my Piper Malibu for over 14 years but have experienced being mis-fueled twice in the last 5 years. I usually try to be there when the fuel truck pulls up to the airplane but that doesn't always happen. But over the last 14 years the PA4...
