Re: Tail tiedown hook

I'm cheap and like to keep it simple. I have to attach the tail to a metal hook. My solution was a small piece of rope I found in the hangar. IMG_0948.jpg Make it into a loop. Hook it thru the metal hook. IMG_0949.jpg Thread the loop thru the tail hole and put it into the hook. IMG_0950.jpg Strong, ...

Re: N611VG crash in Virginia

I've played with the G1000 / GFC700 autopilot and it will indeed continue on the last heading when it goes past the last waypoint in the flight plan. It doesn't change indication to heading mode, but does in fact act that way. I think Wayne's explanation is right on. No change to lateral mode indic...

Re: Cleaning after a flight

I use the RejeX. It seems to work great. You can do the leading edges more frequently if needed. After that, a soft scrubby and water after each flight should be enough.

Re: Yet another fuel pump failure on 2003 DA 40

I just had my second intermittent failure on the electric fuel pump. It's the 2009 original. Do we all still like the Weldon 18002-B pump as the preferred replacement?

Re: New Nose Wheel Fin

Finally installed my Bret Fin. I left the rudder tab in place since it appeared straight anyway. I was very happy to see the ball centered and stay there. The plane seemed a bit faster and my right foot got a break. Very happy!

DA40 Crankshaft AD Jan 15 2021

I got a tech pub update from Diamond and one of the items appears to be an AD for IO-360-M1A engines with a Superior Air Parts crankshaft installed. It got my attention since it says the crank must be replaced within 25 operating hours  . Anybody have info on this? I don't even know how to fi...

Re: Who do you use for insurance? Ours just doubled

Those seem like large numbers. Perhaps because of the hull value.

I don't want to break any rules, or over share, but ...
We have a 2009 DA40-XLS, Hull value $262k, 2 IFR rated pilots both at about 550 total hours. Our 2019 insurance was $1516 with Assured Partners through AOPA.
