Re: KAP-140 R & P fail + manual electric trim fail

May not have been your problem, but I have run into this a few times with a few of my planes, 42 and 40s. In the G1000/KAP-140 configurations, the T/C that is located behind the panel. This instrument is actually on the avionics bus with the autopilot. So if the T/C is getting weak, and not spooling...

Re: G1000 Legacy upgrade program for DA42TDI

Just want to revive this thread to make sure everyone who is interested knows that, it the US, Diamond has released OSB 42-145 that now allows upgrade of the legacy G1000s to WAAS (SBAS). It allows either the -01 or -20 units. I have already tracked down and ordered a couple of units and they should...

Re: Special Services Corp, Greenville SC

I have had several Diamonds inspected there, usually large inspections, 6000hrs on the 20s, 2000hrs on the 40s. They are a little slower than other diamond shops since, as they say, they don't service them as often as other types. We have ceased using them since the last time we had a reservation th...

Re: COM static

Had this happen on one of my 40s a while back, was an older one, that had low time. It had started later, maybe one hour or so, into flights. Then it started happening earlier and earlier. When we finally had our 1000 hr bonding inspection, we found over half of the static wicks were bad. Once repla...

Re: vm1000 replacement

Jonathan- What did you have to do to the panel to fit in the JPI 930? As near as I can tell, the hole where the VM1000 is installed is too small. Thanks. Bernie We had to cut a new piece for the panel. The VM is a different shape, taller but not as wide. So we cut a piece and fit it over the old pa...

Re: vm1000 replacement

I have done the VM1000 to JPI EDM930 on both of my pre-g1000 40s. While I am not a fan of JPI as a company after the experiences I have had with them, the installs went fairly well. The DA40 is indeed on the STC AML for the EDM930. https://www.jpinstruments.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/scan0001.pd...

Re: DA40 Adding the extended luggage compartment

I know it is a bit of an old topic, but I wanted to add that I have an extended baggage compartment in my storage room that I am not using. If interested, let me know. I also believe I have a ski tube that is not being used, just sitting around.

Re: Exhaust Valves and Exhaust Risers

I agree on the cylinders not actually needing to be replaced. However, as I understand it, no amount of leakage past the valves is "acceptable" and once the compressions go below the master orifice leakage they can not be considered airworthy.

Re: Exhaust Valves and Exhaust Risers

I have 4 DA20s in my flight school. I have been constantly battling exhaust valve issues since shortly after I got the first plane. Specifically, they tend to "cup" really badly and only last about 500-700 hours before compressions get bad enough to pull jugs and rehab them. Typically, all...
