Re: Avionic upgrade - Part #1/2

Arnaud - couple of questions -

Why is your Amps reading -10.2 while in flight, with the index below the green range? With the usual avionics powered, my airplane charges at about 11 Amps…

What did you do with the cutout for the original VM-1000 and fuel gauge?

Re: EGT configuration in engine data manager

Arnaud:

There are no limits I could find in the Lycoming IO360 Operator's Manual for EGT. The only limit I could find anywhere was 1650 degrees F, but that was for turbocharged engines, which ours is not. The only reason I can imagine for setting a low limit would be if you had a cold cylinder ...

Re: Help - Not sure what to do - Exhaust leakage

I've not seen oil on the exterior of the bottom plugs on my airplane. That is weird. I can't fathom how it would transit the plug without a significant, obvious failure in the ceramic to metal seal.

As far as the exhaust leaks go, they are common with that kind of exhaust pipe clamps. Below is a ...

Re: DA62, one year of bittersweet ownership

From time to time, a loud and irritating rattling/buzzing noise starts under the panel/pedals/central console. It's so loud that it's comparable to engine noise. It sounds very much like a loose panel or some other poorly secured interior component. But after checking everything, I still haven't ...

Re: Explaining navigation technologies and all the jargon that surrounds those tools to non-pilot family and friends

Good video Wayne. BTW, Amelia Earhart's copilot, Fred Noonan, was a world renowned celestial navigator but couldn't find Howland Island. I'll stick with my GPS! An interesting fact - GPS was only supposed to be for the military, but Reagan opened it to the public after KAL007 was shot down by the ...

It seems to depend on the year and panel configuration:

This was my OEM AI, note 0 degree panel tilt...

Re: electric artificial horizon maintenance

Steve:

I used the RCA P/N: 102-0403-11-09. That is the one with Pitch Sync and the battery backup. 0 degree tilt on my old style panel. You will have to switch out the 3 amp CB for a 1 amp one (easy), and disconnect the wiring from the Diamond emergency battery, as the voltage supplied by that is ...

Re: Mounting Insta360 with selfie stick

I've been thinking of mounting an Insta360 on a selfie stick to the ventral tail fin. Has anyone done this and if so can you share the method you used? I would assume that a through bolt in the tail tie down hole should be fairly secure.

Oh, well that is a different story. I would be curious to see the shipping container they build for the wing.

Re: Strength of composite wings

Update: Transport of the wing and repair will cost about 10k USD.

Charles - Does the wing really need to be removed and shipped for repair? I seem to recall that when Rich had wing damage in a similar area (although to a lesser extent) that he flew the airplane to a repair shop. I assume that ...
