Re: Gust lock
But then if there's a stiff breeze the plane wants to go nose-up, correct? Logically yes, but I wouldn't be sure the force is enough and I took the view if its good enough for the folks in the Austrian Alps, its probably ok. Aircraft is always hangared, but I have had it parked outside in 60-70kts ...

Re: Gust lock
On collecting a DA42 at the factory in Austria a few years ago, a very helpful Diamond instructor used the seatbelt to lock the controls, and pointed out that aircraft with the yaw damper and the nosewheel steering don’t need the rudder lock anyway. On windy days at the base of the Austrian Alps, th...

Add to that - it never drops below horizontal.

Re: AE 300: Timing Chain / Flywheel Replacement
Sure it’s annoying, but replacing both flywheels and timing chains will be €10k-€15k Euros and you get another 18 months flying. Overhauling the engines will cost €70k and you’ll have to join the queue and wait for an engine - there is a bit of a lead time right now for OH engines! And if you’re fly...

Re: Transistion DA42-VI into DA62
You won’t need transition to fly, it’s very similar. Under EASA you do need familiarisation training on type and I always assumed that’s why Diamond offer the course. But familiarisation can be done with an instructor too. You will need to be aware of some differences, be aware the cabin is much nic...

Re: Most Hours in a DA-62
Logged about 500 hours in the DA40 XLS, about 350 hours in the DA42-VI, and most recently 250 hours in the last year in the DA62, and expect to continue around 150-250 hours per year in the DA62. All are great aircraft, but the DA62 really feels like a step up (literally) and a serious touring machi...

Deice MAX only works on Pump 2
Had the following issue of not being able to operate to MAX mode on deicing. At first I thought it might just be a bulb. Done the obvious of checking windshield on Pump 1 and 2, plus operated both Norm and High on each pump. In Norm, both pumps run, but high and windshield operation uses the selecte...

Re: Alt load imbalance
$13k to fix a warning for an alternator that is working fine and just needed and improved regulator to make the software happy. Wow!
We had a regulator swapped for a new one, but didn’t fix the issue. Next steps was upgrade the Garmin software. Now wait and see.

Re: Alt load imbalance
Hi Salim Did you get this fixed? We had a the same issue for the past year on a newish DA42-VI. If you turn the right Alt Off (on the ground of course), then the left picked up the load happily. So clearly the alternator is working. In the end we have upgraded the G1000 software and that seems to ha...
