Re: Dukes Fuel Pump Drip
If you suspect the SOS, perform a "Starting Vibrator Functional Check" as detailed in the IO-240 Engine Maintenance and Overhaul Manual (Publication M-6). This only takes 15-20 minutes. BTW, if it turns out that the SOS is not working, before you start replacing components, be sure the ret...

Re: Dukes Fuel Pump Drip
. >>>Before fuel pump change I had no problems at all.. problems came immediately after pump chsnged<<< Based on that statement alone, I'd suspect the overhauled pump and replace it with a new or factory authorized overhauled pump. FWIW: a couple years ago a local flight school with a very large fle...

Re: DA20 with MT Prop STC - Low RPM?
2000-2200 static takeoff rpm is normal with the MT Propeller installed. See the attached MT Propeller STC limitations page.

Re: High RPM @ idle causes a fast taxi speed
A mechanic's primary reference source is the Diamond Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM). From the DA20-C1 AMM, "For the fuel injection system inspection, the IDLE RPM setting for the IO-240-B engine installed in the DA20-C1 aircraft is 1000 ± 25 RPM." Aircraft Flight Manual also states 1000...

Re: High RPM @ idle causes a fast taxi speed
I not suggesting to arbitrarily lower it to 900.
Adjust it to 1000 RPM at idle (per the book) but be sure to use an electronic tach like the Tru Tach.

Re: High RPM @ idle causes a fast taxi speed
My mechanic insists the DA 20 -C1 engine must idle at least 1000 RPM. The problem is this causes a fast taxi speed requiring constant use of the right brake. Any advice on lowering the RPM or techniques for a fast taxi without constant use of the right brake? Is your mechanic setting the RPM with a...

Re: Nose Wheel Strut Issue
The NLG likes to shimmy - frequently it will start osculating a few wags upon NLG touchdown, on occasion violently until you either get the NLG unloaded up in the air again or slow down while being shaken like a dog with its toy, so I am struggling with that issue also. I'm aware of the castellated...

DA20 Tire Inflation Chuck with Wheel Pants Installed
On our DA20 with wheel pants installed, I use the following tools to make the bi-weekly tire inflation check quick & easy: 1. 3/8 nut driver to remove & install the the valve cap. Careful not to cross-thread! 2. A 5.5-inch straight aircraft tire air chuck (see photo). Cost is $15 on eBay. ht...

Inexpensive Stall-Port Plug <$1
For a number of reasons I was never really comfortable using a foamy ear plug to fill the stall-port on the DA20. I wanted to find a better way without spending $35 on a commercially available stall-port plug. So here is my solution for an inexpensive plug that is effective, robust, and inexpensive....
