Re: Lighten Up
The story of the Outremer sailing catamarans is that when you board for a race they go through your luggage with you and, for instance, cut your toothbrush in two so they can discard the wasteful half.

Re: DA62 on order or recently delivered?
Ah, Cambridge is a much better recommendation. It's an odd thing, but I have *never* flown a plane into Canada, or back out, for any sort of maintenance. I have often been traveling up there (my grandfather bought a place north of Parry Sound in 1950), and wound up stopping in at the factory, but th...

Re: DA62 on order or recently delivered?
That is *very* good advice from Russ. I wish I had it back when I had a bunch of work done on my plane. They bent five pins when they were putting the LRUs back in and I had a failure on my first flight in the US, although I didn't understand it at the time. Tens of hours later it finally failed com...

Re: Factory warranty
Diamond has really good records for what it costs to maintain their planes and what sort of expensive SB's and the like show up. It's interesting that on a DA62, which I would expect to be a customer fairly used to expensive maintenance assets, does not provide a market for a program to maintain the...

Re: Factory warranty
When I bought my first DA40 it came with a crazy two year or 600 hour warranty that paid for all service. I had no idea how nice that was until years later. I got my oil changed right at 25 hours. I chased a problem with the fuel gauge even though it was costing a fortune (eventually they flew a guy...

Do you mean the crack in the gel coat? Can you just wipe off the grease and cover that with some touch up paint?

Re: AOPA's McSpadden killed in crash
I had accidents like that. So many NTSB reports I can read and say, "That won't be me, I wouldn't make those decisions." So many are fuel-related or pressing on in bad weather. Never me. This one (and Scott Crossfield) is really tough. Could he have been a better, more safety conscious pil...

Re: Austro engine reliability and safety
I spoke to a G650 pilot who said they lost an engine over ABQ and flew the plane up to Wichita where there was a better service center. (The service center communicated with them via that fancy texting system they have and suggested it.) It feels like one of those decisions which, with no passengers...
