Re: Austro engine reliability and safety

Engine maintenance is hourly. 100, 300, 600, and 900 hour checks are the big milestones. 100 hours is mostly the oil change and gearbox fluid check. If the gearbox making metal, it means the gearbox is coming off and getting tossed. The 600 hour interval requires a new fuel pump and a flywheel check...

Re: Delta Hawk DHK180

Ditto on more power in the 62. Higher power probably requires flight test to re-determine performance data. It can be deep into the 6 figure if not 7 figure range. If they could pull off counter rotating engines, Vmc would probably stay low even with higher power. Vmc and stall speeds are what dicta...

Re: Delta Hawk DHK180

everyone can work on it/familiarity everywhere Why wouldn't service availability for the Delta Hawk be even less than the Austro? No gearboxes, ECUs, etc means mechanics won't need special tools to test the TVDs. No dongle required to check codes. Any mechanic can probably wrap their head around a ...

Re: Delta Hawk DHK180

They mentioned a collaboration with Piper on the Seminole. Never thought I'd say this, but that may be a pretty cool personal plane with cruising speeds over 180 ktas. Fits in a 40' T hangar everyone can work on it/familiarity everywhere 108 gallons of fuel Better short field performance higher Vne,...

Re: Q: How do you fit a 48' wingspan into a 48' hangar opening?

Rob, there's some genius going on there. Hats of to you! I love coming back to this thread for inspiration. If only the wingtips were made with a quick disconnect. Or made for frequent/easy removal. Need something like the 777X https://www.gantner-instruments.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/boeing-77...

Re: GMA 1360/G1000 NXi: Passengers can't hear com radio

We have NXi phase II. I have a different GMA software load than Marlon. I'm on 5.15e vs Marlon's 5.15De

I'm told 5.15De is a non-authorized config now.

Re: GMA 1360/G1000 NXi: Passengers can't hear com radio

I asked my shop if they could load the same GMA config that Marlon has but they said it's no longer permitted and it'll throw a config error code. I'm fine isolating pax from intercom/radios with the ICS button but we've got to have the pax-hearing-radios option back. Are new planes being delivered ...

Re: Prop Damage

Rolling takeoffs are the number one technique to mitigate FOD on props and jets. If you don't need a static takeoff, do a rolling takeoff.

Look under the props when you do a run up in the wet. The little vortex tells you what's going on, and that's with power at 50%/lower RPM.

Imagine full power.

Not sure, but if a plane is ordered now I'm sure Canada will be up to speed in a couple years by the time they get to delivery.
