Re: The glaring weaknesses in flight training
I don't think insurance companies would mandate this kind of training. To put it in perspective, most people pay $5-10k for the whole year of insurance. The insurance companies would either have to: - Discount the insurance to be practically free or - Effectively double your insurance premiums By th...

Re: The glaring weaknesses in flight training
I personally would like to see flight simulator improvements. It's a lot easier to surprise someone when they can't see you prepare for it. The problem is the simulators we have access to are basically useless for flight characteristics and are more for learning and managing avionics. The best we c...

Re: Parts Delays and Diamond Supplier Issues?
Tell them to push harder. I ordered at the beginning of March and my turbo and other parts (injectors, cylinder head) are shipped. Admittedly with a bit of pressure on Diamond. Sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands. I would be screaming at Diamond if I was waiting 8 weeks for a turb...

Re: Parts Delays and Diamond Supplier Issues?
Turbo lead times should be coming down. My order with a turbo just shipped. I think the current lead time for a turbo is 4 weeks. If significantly more than that, tell your shop to ping Diamond.

Not Miami but I’ve been very impressed with MyFlight. They are based in Orlando at KORL, and operate a sizable diamond fleet.

Re: DA50 vs The World
Ethiopia is the current route but subject to change given political situations. I have had good reports on both GASE in Egypt and White Rose in the UK for the flight planning and am hoping to do it November this year. What stops are you thinking to get through Egypt -> Saudi Arabia -> Ethiopia -> K...

Re: DA50 vs The World
I am planning to fly UK to South Africa and it can be done on the standard tanks but will install a Turtle Pac on the back seat for an added safety margin. What route are you taking? Since Sudan… closed… my understanding is that it is now more difficult. I saw DAI routed through Ethiopia, is that w...

Re: Prop Damage
My DA62 transition instructor taught me to do all takeoffs holding brakes and checking full power prior to brake release. As you pointed out, this is certainly not SOP per the AFM. I would only hold the brakes on short runways, since you want to validate proper operation of the engine. Usually ECU ...
