EASA-compliant 200h in the U.S. / Canada

As part of a round-the-world I am looking for a shop that can do (and sign-off) a 200h on an EASA registered DA62. Afaik all shops I am familiar with, such as Premier in FL or even Diamond in ON, have given up on EASA due to the paper trail and cost they produce relative to the small business they b...

Re: DA62 iPad Mount

It does fit an 11" iPad pro provided you keep the thing more or less vertical. Works just fine for me. While we are at it: the CFRP of the DA62 shields any cellular signal quite nicely. Has anyone tried to mount an external antenna such as the RAMI-289 for better reception? If so, did that make...

Re: Aircraft ownership structure

I second the advise to speak with a tax consultant. For years I had a DA42 in a similar construct in Germany. The key to have it recognized by the tax authorities was chartering the aircraft out to multiple customers, which I understand you don’t want to do. There is no way around talking to a knowl...

Re: Diesel smell in the cabin

This one is interesting. After flying 4 different DA42s and now my DA62 I am at a point where I considered jet fuel fumes in the cabin after re-fueling to be “normal” to a degree. In my experience the smell would almost always disappear after 15 to 30 minutes into the flight and, yes, the problem ca...

Re: Where to buy engine oil in Europe?

Not sure about the Castrol. I am using Shell Helix Ultra - mostly for the reason that I can usually by it at gas stations around Europe when I am running low. That worked at least in Spain, Germany and Hungary. If you are ever have an immediate need for oil and don’t mind mixing that might be an opt...

Re: 100UL and Us

I am just watching from a distance, but just by chance saw AVweb‘s summary of the 100UL drama, yesterday: https://youtu.be/9F-WngVMJBQ From what I understand, any drop-in replacement legally requires either a load of STCs or an act of congress, according to AVweb. On my side of the Atlantic things a...

Re: Airventure / Oshkosh 2022 .. who plans to fly in from Europe?

A bit far for me :) and it has always looked too complicated from logistics point of view. How many legs will you have for crossing and how many in total? It‘s really not that bad. Weather allowing you can do Oshkosh from central Germany in six legs (Germany, Scotland, Iceland, Greenland, Goose Bay...

Re: DA62 - Personal ETOPS Discussion

ETOPS - How far (in minutes) from land, at the one-engine speed (what is that number CFIDave?!) do we consider acceptable for "every Saturday morning" type flights in a DA62? I would not worry about the engines too much. You can quite comfortably cruise home on a single engine should one ...
