Re: Canada ADS-B Diversity Requirement

I requested the test results from NavCanada for the Canadian mandate for my DA40 with a bottom-mounted transponder antenna connected to a GTX345 transponder. At first glance, the report shows 100% accuracy so I felt pretty good about it. Closer inspection, however, revealed that only 6% of expected ...

Re: Ghana Fund To Order 50 Diamond DA-62 Aircraft

I wonder if there is a prohibition against them reselling those planes at a higher price before delivery.

Re: Engine overhaul time - Lycoming IO-360-M1A

The issue was at the bottom end of the intake pipes near seal P/N 77569. Come to think of it, I have no idea why oil was visible on the bottom of the pipes on the induction housing. Could it have leaked from somewhere else and collected there? In any case, the seals were declared faulty and replaced...

Re: Engine overhaul time - Lycoming IO-360-M1A

Update on the overhaul. We just had the plane in for its first annual at 60SMOH following the overhaul last year and everything on the engine was fine except ALL 4 intake gaskets were leaking oil. The shop confirmed that they were replaced during the overhaul with the right part number so they're su...

Re: IO-360 with intermittant oil pressure reading

I have a VM-1000 and had a similar issue where pressure would suddenly fluctuate wildly in flight. The connector was fine but one of the wires had broken off about 5mm from the connector and was kept in place by the other conductor, causing an intermittent connection.

Re: Engine overhaul time - Lycoming IO-360-M1A

The overhaul shop that did my engine is about 200 miles away from my base. The shop that does my routine maintenance at my base airport removed the engine from the airplane and put it on a wooden pallet, and the overhaul shop picked it up with their truck and delivered it back after the overhaul. Th...

Re: Engine overhaul time - Lycoming IO-360-M1A

Speaking of shops, I was a bit angry at my shop for not wanting to do anything about the hot cylinder, which they dismissed as something that would work itself out "eventually". In retrospect, they were right and I was wrong to want them to take it apart for investigating.

Re: Engine overhaul time - Lycoming IO-360-M1A

After a little under 12 months since the overhaul and about 70 flight hours, the CHT for cylinder #4 which was initially 40F hotter than the others seems to have settled down. We'll know for sure when summer temperatures are back but now #4 is no longer the hottest cylinder so I'm optimistic that th...

Re: Questions about pitting in the camshaft

I had a full overhaul done last year for $37k USD including engine removal and installation and genuine Lycoming cylinders. If you're going to spend $30k on that repair, you might as well do a full overhaul which in theory is due after 12 years anyway. Short of a full teardown, removing one cylinder...

Re: Part number for illuminated breaker labels

I've replaced the original incandescent bulbs in the original overhead light fixtures with 24V LED bulbs that have the same socket. It makes a big difference. Come to think of it, I can probably read the breaker labels when they're on but I don't like things that don't work as intended, so I will be...
