There is no lag or delay in activation for the electric trim on my airplane either. Steve gives a good list of suspects and I have a couple of comments. Fortunately I have a KAP guru nearby at KHYA (Griffin Avionics). Other shops in the region will often defer to them for issues.

I have a 2004 with KAP140 and GIA63W upgrade. I get more precise glideslope tracking with ILS than LPV which can wander, getting worse as I approach the runway. +1 for these comments, great product. You will want to use cowl plugs and a blanket, especially if outside. I try to run it at least 4-6 hours before startup but 2 should work if it is not much below freezing.
