Re: DA62 down in Dubai

I'm not sure about accident reports in other parts of the world, but the (US) NTSB uses that as a cause when wake turbulence is a factor. Basically, in the US, wake turbulence avoidance is the pilot's responsibility. I'm not sure about specific procedures at other ATC facilities around the world, bu...

Re: DA62 down in Dubai

I'm sorry about "hijacking" the DA62 down in Dubai , but "wake turbulence" is a very important issue. I think a lot of us do not constantly consider the dangers associated with it. It doesn't take a "Super" (A380) to upset our aircraft. Flying through the wake turbulence of a same-sized airplane (re...

Re: DA62 down in Dubai

Assuming the initial report and assumption is correct, which appears more than likely in view of video footage taken at the time, I wonder just how the statistics are treated when (i) It was carrying out a low level, higher than normal risk, commercial operation; and (ii) the accident was a result ...

Re: Inset Map

I still remember a "mission statement" from 30+ years ago when I was in the USAF - "There is no peacetime mission that requires the penetration of a thunderstorm!" (note the word "peacetime"! - more YIKES) Well, there is one mission. Way back when I was in college, one of my professors had an old A...

Will most definitely watch the "8 tips for Flying Around Thunderstorms" on their website.

Re: Inset Map

Hi Scott - Since you mentioned holding patterns and DME arcs - here are some decent youtube "resources" - I've sent the following to a couple of forum members via PM - Here is a link to a very good G1000 youtube series. There are 17 8-12 minute "mini lessons" on various G1000 subjects - https://www....

Re: Inset Map

"Any additional thoughts you can share on "proper distance" and your general strategies for thunderstorm avoidance would be much appreciated." Here's an "additional thought" - Know where the upwind side of any storm is located. Wind info is a great feature on our G1000 displays - always pay attenti...

Re: New DA62 Interior Option - Lounge Seat Option

Folding down the rear seat leaves a large luggage area!

Here's a solution for the 2 seat "middle row" club seating - keep the advantage of the "extra seat, if needed, and have a removable center console too!!
