Re: Maximizing Lycoming IO360 Climb Performance
Very nice thread, especially the initial post! Here’s my two cents from an ex DA40 pilot who has since moved on but still recalls trying to extract maximum performance in the Swiss Alps. I have found out that the IO-360 is a very robust engine. Both of my DA 40s’ engines were subjected to thorough i...

Re: What comes after a DA40?
Thanks for the feedback guys. @Thomas yes the take-off run was very long but the engine was making full power, so I guess that’s what it is on a sloped runway at 2000 ft... I must also say that I normally wait until 80 KIAS for rotation, although the aircraft can do it sooner. I like how it behaves ...

Re: What comes after a DA40?
Another video! This is one of a group of 2, maybe 3.
Includes stunning views of the top of Europe ( from above!) as well as the weather trap I got us in Croatia for wanting to go watch the scenery on the wrong day.
Enjoy!

Aircraft Guaranty Corp, Trustee
AGC is a major provider of trust services for foreign owners of N-reg aircraft. I read on their website that they have more than $ 1 billion in aircraft under trustee ownership. All owned by one legal entity. If your aircraft is owned by this company, you should be aware of this: https://www.kltv.co...

Re: DA42-VI (jet boost)
I absolutely love nearly every aspect of my DA42-VI. Two things that would make it the perfect aircraft for me... 1-Reclining rear seats to keep backseat passengers more comfortable on long trips 2-Faster cruise speeds... Assuming 100 lbs. of thrust was sufficient (???), I calculate incremental fue...

Re: Corked Nose Wheel
In cruise, the "ball" was just slightly off to the left, enough to bug me if it were persistent,. Steve you can play with the size of the fin to get the ball centered. Mine initially was initially too large, but when reduced to the size on the pic page 1 of this thread the plane was perfe...

Re: Corked Nose Wheel
Hi Steve Metal is probably not great for damping in this highly turbulent flow area. You need a stiff structure to resist the prop blast and internal damping to avoid it becoming a resonator that’s triggers some unexpected effects. I used a plywood core: this allowed me to easily carve it into an ai...

Re: Finally the Launch??
According to the engine's data sheet the critical altitude is 8000 ft. Based upon my experience with an aircraft of the same MTOW and an additional 50 HP, I think 300 HP (actually even less, they claim 300 DIN PS, not 300 SAE HP) won't be enough to operate safely in high density altitude take-offs. ...

Re: Power Flow
I've never thought about this before. Is there a reason there isn't a SuperCharger that works on the exhaust? It seems like it would be a tiny amount of engine power to turn a fan that created a negative-pressure in the exhaust system. With a simple gate so that it didn't run as too powerful a vacu...
