Re: Recent reports of JetA Fuel Contamination

If I understand these incidents correctly, DEF was accidentally put into the wrong tank on the fuel truck, I.e. the JET-A additive port for delivery-mixed PRIST instead of the truck's DEF port. The local FBO here sent out a letter that 1) their fuel trucks do not use DEF, and 2) they are reviewing p...

Lee, is your G1000 WAAS? If not, LNAV is what I would expect to see for any GPS approach.
Rich, thanks. I read too much into the OP.

Re: G1000 KAP 140 NAV to APR transition question

This http://flywithhoward.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/GTN650-KAP140_Coupled_GPS_Approach.pdf may offer some ideas. (It's not G1000, it's GTN650). I noted that this suggests waiting until after the G1000 mode switches from NAV to LPV before activating APR on the KAP140. However, this assumes that ...

Colin, thanks for the additional information! Sounds like the complete story is still developing. Would value additional updates in the future when there's more to tell.

Re: DA42 engine out emergency at KTOA yesterday.

When my FADEC was failing recently I had a racing prop. All sorts of fun stuff, but apparently it is a circuit board issue, not a mechanical issue. Colin, did you (or can you) post more details about the ECU failure? Which part(s) of the ECU system failed: ECU A, ECU B, and/or voter? How did this c...

Re: FAA-Approved Sim for Instrument Currency?

Mark, if your computer and graphics card are capable enough to run X-Plane at a decent frame rate in simulated IFR conditions (i.e. bare minimum 20 fps), then Windows 10 vs. Mac isn't an issue. You can test this 'for free' before buying X-Plane and other simulator hardware accessories and adjusting ...

Re: Leading edge protection

Does anyone have experience with using the Aerotect 3M paint protection films? https://www.aircraftpaintprotection.com/DA-40_c_24.html (This also addresses the topic of DAN thread about "Stainless Nose Wheel Tow Bar Protection".) https://diamondaviators.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4505&p=48701&hi...

Re: Austro Engines

I noted this with interest. It makes sense that Diamond would pick an 'existing' 300-HP aviation diesel engine for the DA50. It's faster time-to-market than developing a more powerful version of the AE300/AE330. The CD-155 for DA40s would be a slight step-down (in the performance curve over altitude...

Re: NG40 here in 30 or so days..what extra do I need to purchase?

Here's a photo of the cowl plugs for the DA40NG from Bruce's Custom Covers. The right side (as viewed from pilot seat) has two smaller plugs because of the way the air intake openings for the Cabin Heat and Gearbox Colling are configured. The left side air intake for the Intercooler and bottom air i...
