Re: DA40NG N907L forced landing on a hig
To me the issue remains the opacity of communication from Diamond/Austro. All consumers feel better when they know causes and instances. If issues arise and manufacturer addresses and communicates the resolution its one hell of a lot better than having people go scan NTSB db's and hoping they pick u...

Re: DA40NG N907L forced landing on a highway
Did Diamond ever release the cause of the engine failure on the DA40NG that made it back to the airport in NJ, or was it NY? It was in NY - IMC engine failure during training flight with CFI on board who magnificently controlled the ATC-guided descent to a happy outcome on a runway. However, Diamon...

Blue Line
Looks like Blue Line is shifting to Piper over a few years. Should have a number of 'well-used' 40 NG's hitting the market during that timeframe. Good maintenance group with much of the work done internally so probably some good planes.

Re: Austro engine reliability and safety
I regularly read Aviation Safety and the accident reports. The accident summaries they print are dominated by engine failures. There have been a number of posts on DAN about Austro engine issues in the last two years which has understandably raised concerns about Austro engine reliability. Since I ...

Re: New MSB about to be issued
Where I did all my flight training. A very good outfit and very safety and maintenance conscious. Because of the size of their Diamond fleet they’ve also been ‘first responders’ in alerting DAI to many of the issues with the Austro engines, including the turbo hose failure which I experienced at 450...

Re: New MSB about to be issued
Sounds like a continuation of the downward spiral of bad news for DAI. The Austro engines have been intermittently unreliable for a number of failure reasons as has been well depicted here on DAN since Diamond brought them in-house from Mercedes. As a prospective new buyer or current owner, why woul...

Re: Flying with tall pax or how tall are you and feel comfortable in a DA42?
42 is same cabin as a 40NG in which I did my IFR - my instrument instructor was 6' 6" and he managed just fine through our approx. 35 hours together during training. I think height is less of an issue as bulk and ratio of legs to torso also important. If he hadn't been a lean guy it might have ...

Re: Flight schools training with diamond fleet
Blue Line Aviation in NC. Zero to hero programs plus more tame approaches for us hobby flyers. I received PPL and instrument from them and recommend their professionalism and attention to safety. Not exclusively Diamond but 95%. Couple of Cessnas in the fleet as well. DA 40NG and DA 42NG are the tra...

Re: Cylinder head cracks
This has been reported before and the report circulated. There have been a couple incidents of maintenance induced partial power failures from poor attachment of the intake manifold ducting during servicing. I think the larger issue is relevant way down towards the end of the Aussie report related ...
