Re: Corked Nose Wheel

The "wind tunnel" idea is great, but doesn't the actual installation have a spring loaded mount with adjustable spring tension? Wouldn't your testing need to closely replicate the actual installation, weight of the components, etc.? If by actual installation you mean the actual DA40 having a spring...

Re: Maximizing Lycoming IO360 Climb Performance

Short version: Was only averaging 2630 rpm on takeoff, got that fixed to hit 2680. Noticeably improvement on initial climb. It may be worth checking if you are getting all the rpm allowed. I’m not sure if this is completely relevant to the OP as it only relates to the initial climb. For the last 1 1...

Re: new Slick mag service bulletin - failing distributor gear

I had both mags IRAN last fall. I’m not sure I was aware of SB1-15A at the time. Thanks to this forum I became aware of it. I assumed that during the IRAN last year the gears would be replaced if I had the copper electrodes as my serial numbers fell in the SB range. The mags were due again and I had...

Re: ILS and LPV for supplemental visual approach guidance

I think you can just activate the leg from the FAF to the runway. I think this is done in the flight plan page, select the leg you want, press the menu button and activate leg. I think I did this twice this week 🤔

Sorry for the “I think”s but I’m not positive on this, just pretty sure.

Re: Power Flow

I flew this morning and I couldn’t notice any difference in sound or performance with the new insert vs the essentially non-existent insert. From now on I’ll replace the insert as needed but it sure doesn’t seem to make much of a difference. That said I fly out of KAPA and the air is so squirrelly i...

Re: Power Flow

I wasn’t sure what to look for when preflighting the powerflow. This is what you don’t want to see. My insert was never replaced until today with 1036 on the tach. This is prior to removing the remains of the old insert. http://wittywritters.com/pics/powerflow_inspect.JPG This is a comparison showin...

Re: Canopy pin rivets failed.

I did some googling and it looks like some planes have it and other don’t. It seems like it’s just more to break and doesn’t really add anything to the mix. I have to get mine fixed just because it bugs me that it’s broken, even if it doesn’t do anything. I can either spend the money to get it fixed...

Re: Canopy pin rivets failed.

I wish there was a good story but there isn’t. One day I opened the canopy from the left side and happened to look forward and down and noticed a round metal disk on the lower fuselage where the canopy meets the fuselage. I thought, hmm.. I wonder what that is and looked up and saw where it came fro...

Canopy pin rivets failed.

Does anyone have experience removing these rivets without leaving pieces behind to rattle in the canopy? It seems when the rivets are drilled out something will be left behind in the cavity. It looks pretty sealed up.

Re: Da40 high fuel pressure/ hot start issue

Hi John, You said you had the fuel pump on and mixture rich. Did you also open the throttle wide open when trying to get the fuel flow going (as indicated on the fuel pressure gauge)? I figure you would have done that but I didn’t see it in your text. It sounds like you had some wicked vapor lock. I...
