Re: cowling heat paint

Rich wrote: Fri Sep 11, 2020 4:18 pm This looks like more than just damage to the paint. What does the outside look like? Does the plane have a Powerflow exhaust system?
No discoloration or bubbling on the outside. Yes, it does have the Powerflow exhaust system.

cowling heat paint

The protective heat paint on the inside of my engine cowling is peeling and flaking in places. Suffering a little sticker shock at $3400 for repair, including 16 hours for mostly sanding, I guess, and some painting. Thought I'd share the photo here and ask if anyone had a comparable repair. Re: Service

Did you try www.diamondaircraft.com, or are you looking for a PIREP?

Re: New Owner

@Rich Thanks for the additional thoughts on W&B. Went to the original, and mine came from the factory at 1811 lbs and 98.5 in, so it is in line with the 2007 models in the wiki (except for the one with nose ballast). None of the changes since look unreasonable. I think I'll skip adding ballast t...

Can't tell you the software version, but mine does record flight data to the SD card.

Re: New Owner

Thanks, I wasn’t going to correct Rich myself  ... but I agree the model number is for the aluminum prop which is what they put on. This HAS caused me to notice for the first time that my logs note the change was “in accordance with STC SA02476CH-D” which Hartzell claims is for the composit...

Re: New Owner

You would notice a ballast hanging on the front of the engine. It will be a stack of metal bars attached to an accessory mounting point. I doubt there is one on your airplane given that you usually see them with composite props. Appears you are correct! Interesting, lose 17# to gain .6 inches... ht...

Re: New Owner

You could put some ballast in front on the engine mount (this is what's done with composite props, for example). The original MT composite prop was replaced with a HC-C2YR-1BFP, but I see no mention of ballast. Where would you see/confirm its presence or absence? Now that I see the W&B table in...

New Owner

Brought N732DS home in September and the smiles just keep coming. But, I've never owned a plane before so the questions keep coming too. I've answered many by reading this forum, but could use some help with these 4 more: 1) Based on the maintenance summary from the great mechanic who inspected it p...

Re: Removing G1000 from a Da40?

Why has the starting point of this conversation been the non-WAAS G1000 (e.g. 2004+) airplane. Why not start with a non G1000 from 2003 or earlier? Were there other significant improvements to the airframe? Ian, I did not know that the G1000 had been available prior to 2004. Sorry, that's not what ...
