Re: DA40 Annual inspection cost?
I paid about the same for my 2003 plane in 2024. I’ve gone to a few shops and the rate has always been fixed, but sometimes a little less. This year I’m trying a new shop and I’m guessing it will be more.

Re: Low Oil Temperature
I don’t use the winter baffle and fly down to 0F. The oil temp readout is 140-160F. I’ve never had any water detected on an oil analysis and the engine is running strong at 2350 hrs. I do fly it often - 175 to 200 hrs a year. I’ve thought about partially blocking the oil cooler but the low temps don ...

Re: Partial Power Loss
Try google searching “DA20 power loss Canada.” There have been a few including fatalities. I also remember some reports from the US, but didn’t try a search for those.

Re: Battery dies after 39 hrs, on a new DA40 NG
What sort of battery does the DA40 NG use? I have a Concord RG 24-15M in my DA40-180 that probably needs replacement soon (7 yrs old) and I see that the cost is almost $1,000. For that price I was hoping for something reliable.

I use midlifeflyer’s technique. I’m past midlife and it’s got me this far.

Re: KAP 140 manual electric trim
Thanks Dan and Steve. I am aware of risk of the autopilot flying the plane in an out of trim condition, and tested for that. Fortunately that doesn’t seem to be happening, but I plan to keep an eye on it. I have some experience flying with an autopilot in an out of trim condition from a previous ...

KAP 140 manual electric trim
There's always been a delay of about 2-3 seconds from the time I activate the manual electric elevator trim switch on the yoke and when I see the trim wheel actually moving. It's been the same way for my 6 years of ownership. I've always just assumed that was normal and used the trim wheel instead ...

Re: Nose gear recurring AD
I think that looks very nice! My new NLG has been ordered and after seeing this post I think I'll save the old one too. Maybe if I put a nice lampshade on it I'll be able to display it in the house.

Re: What should air traffic control call a DA 40?
At my airport (KFCM) we have my DA40, a DA20 and 2 flight school DA42’s. The DA42’s identify themselves as “Twin Stars” and are flying all the time. I identify myself as Diamond Star because that’s what it says on the side of my plane and to distinguish myself from the DA 20. The tower often points ...

I have also heard that tubes should not be reused.
