Re: DA42 vs BeechA36 or Cirrus for long distance

Late to the conversation. I used to own a BE36TC. I have owned my DA42 now since 2008. The noise and lack of range in the BE36 were factors for upgrading to a 42. I did have the premium interior installed which includes reclining seats, visors, O2 etc. I am 6ft tall and have no problems with height ...

Re: Leaking fuel after top off

My DA42 TDi does the same. There is a simple fix. The filler cap chain is attached to the tank by a tag of metal. if you use the hole where the chain is attached to the tag as a mark and fill to this point, the tanks won't leak. Any more fuel fill above this mark runs the risk of fuel venting inside...

Re: Asking your opinion about my judgment

Of course. Makes sense. The 42's main tanks are outboard of the engines.

Re: Asking your opinion about my judgment

The max imbalance for a DA42 TDi is 5 Gals per AFM. There is a placard in the cockpit to this effect. I would have thought the same limitations would be true for the DA42 NG. No idea why the DA40 could have a significantly higher imbalance limit. The DA42TDi doesn't have fuel pumps like the NG. The ...

Re: Running at 90%

I have the Thielert 2.0 motors and as far as I am concerned, you can run them at 100% if you choose. There is obviously a fuel burn/range penalty for doing so but the engines are certified for 2400hrs at max power without any restrictions. I believe the Austro engines can only be run at a continuous...

Re: DA42 down in Romania

Difficult to speculate on cause. Both photos are from the same side. The wreckage in the foreground looks to be the rear cockpit door. Presumably this has been stacked there by the emergency workers. The wreckage behind the aircraft makes me think it likely the line of impact was towards the camera ...

Re: Tapping the Brakes

I believe the reason for tapping the brakes has nothing to do with fitting the wheel in the well. You stop the mains spinning because the gyroscopic effect of the wheels turning adds tremendously to the work the retraction gear has to perform to get the wheels up. IFRC This doesn't apply to the nose...

Re: Looking to Rent/Lease DA42/62 for RTW

I have a 2008 DA42 complete with ferry tanks which is available June to Nov. The ferry tanks were purpose built in aluminium by Kai and recess into the rear foot wells to give an uncluttered area behind the pilot(s). With the regular, ferry and aux tanks full, the endurance is around 2050nm @70% wit...
