Re: Which engine would you buy?

Did you hear about the RV-10 that crashed January 2nd because the door was open? Pilot died.

The Van's website currently shows six service bulletins for the RV-10 in the last two years alone ...

Re: EASA AD 2024-0235

I don't understand why you think it deflects from the cause.
The loss of a door is caused by the latch gas strut and emergency door catch not being maintained in a serviceable condition, hence the inspection.
If the gas strut does not give an over-center force to the latch, it can vibrate open ...

Re: EASA AD 2024-0235

So far for private owners in the US this is only a recommended MSB, not yet a required AD for the DA42. http://support.diamond-air.at/fileadmin/uploads/files/after_sales_support/DA42_New_Generation/Service_Bulletins/SB42NG-095-M-r0-actions-to-prevent-passenger-door-separation.pdf

Curious, is there ...

Re: Diamond Customer Service Story

Even if every pilot has a soft hand on the controls, flight schools and flying clubs are hard on airplanes if for no other reason than the rapid build up of flight hours. Many required maintenance events are based on time and every trip to the shop is a chance for an MIF or maintenance induced ...

Still something torqued into a hole in the cylinder head right? How is that less likely to strip? Lower torque?

Over on the Cirrus forum they say the only thing worse than a one year Continental warranty is a two year Continental warranty.

Re: DA62 - Smart choice?

Like everything in aviation the answer is, it depends.

Your information says you have a turbo Cirrus now. Turbo Continental IO-550 engines have cylinder problems. Austro and Continental (and automobile) diesel engines have piston problems. There is hope that new and improved pistons will be ...

Re: Shortest trip time by climb speed / rate of climb

Chris and Steve,

I reread it a few hours after posting and realized that the numbers in my examples were not the most representative. I then spent time editing the post only to get a message that editing was no longer allowed. With new numbers the conclusion was similar. It matters little whether ...

Re: Shortest trip time by climb speed / rate of climb

In the real world the answer will be different for each plane and for each flight but this is a fun thought experiment. Here is a weak effort to reason out a hypothetical answer.

The overall ground speed for the flight is what determines how long it takes for us to get from point A to point B ...
