Re: The glaring weaknesses in flight training
I think it is even more scary when you consider new MOSAIC proposals potentially allowing sport pilots to fly larger, more powerful aircraft. We all want to increase GA, but sacrificing safety to do so is crazy. I think the PPL PTS should include more basic instrument instruction, preferably in IMC,...

Very sad. Unfortunate those guys talking in the video didn't render immediate help rather than standing there yelling "WTF"

Re: Prop governor
I heard back from MT USA today. When they opened the prop there was zero grease inside. It was completely dry. The bearings were damaged. They found that a piece of one of the bearing races had broken off. They said they saw signs of heat damage. I'm not sure how this happened. The prop is 390 hrs ...

Re: Thoughts after 2 year of owning a DA40NG
As far as two years goes... I started on 6/22/21 with my first lesson in a C172... since then I have flown Screenshot 2024-03-20 at 10.01.37 AM.png Yeah, that's impressive to log so many hours in two years. After a very busy life with TJ Rodgers, glad you have the time to have some fun. I am surpri...

Re: Thoughts after 2 year of owning a DA40NG
MOSAIC will improve costs. I don't think it will help much for solo owners like us. Somehow or the other there needs to be a safety compromise... I personally not a fan of sport and recreational pilot licenses. Absolutely not a fan. I'm really perplexed why AOPA is pushing it. Can't be good for GA ...

Re: Thoughts after 2 year of owning a DA40NG
Wow, that's a lot of flying in two years. Certainly helps bring down hourly cost. My hourly cost is dominated by fixed costs as I fly only about 100-150 per year: annual averages about $5K, hangar $7.8K, insurance $2K, county taxes $4.2K. For 100 hours, that's $190/hour before gas, oil, scheduled ma...

Re: Checklists and procedure plates
Standard iPad on lap for maps and charts (used to use a Mini but sometimes labels in small typeface in Foreflight are just too small to see) with an Apple Pencil for clearances/ATIS/map notations, Checkmate laminated checklists, G1000 checklists are available but never used. I also have some very de...

Thanks Rich. Correct on I-80 being Wyoming vs Colorado. Once through Provo Pass, that’s a pretty easy route.
