Re: Circuit and landing config

The plane is fast so it is easy to come wailing into the pattern at 110 or 120.. which im not a fan of because of all the cessnas out there. Dont do that it isn't nice. Also dont be an asshole (you know who you are)... follow AC90-66B non towered airport operations

Probably better to follow AC ...

Re: DA40NG aircraft tug/tow

You should search this site for previous sites on tugs, there are several that will give you a lot of useful information. For example:

Re: LOP ops

You might also run a few degrees closer to peak EGT. If you look at the power curve, you lose power much faster on the lean side of peak, so any differential is going to be amplified. You might lose a few tenths gph, but you’ll also have a smoother and faster ride than an aggressively leaned mixture.

Re: 08 DA40 XLS Pattern Power settings

The best thing you can learn is the feel and sight picture of the aircraft at each of those points in the pattern. Which comes with repetition and careful observation. We can give you lots of numbers and you can try to memorize and repeat. But every plane flies differently, even within the same ...

Re: One VERY High EGT

Yikes. On my first (!) dual instruction flight, #4 CHT spiked during initial climb. CFI: “My controls.” Yessir! Learned some ADM real fast.

Turned out to be real — not a sensor issue. That DA40 had some big $ repairs and, one hopes, is happily flying someplace else.

Yes, it was a sphincter ...

Re: Garmin Smart Charts

What's interesting is that several car manufacturers are going to go away from Carplay to offer their own infotainment solutions again. Some never adopted it:

GM's Shift:
GM is moving away from CarPlay and Android Auto in its EVs and plans to gradually phase them out in gasoline-powered vehicles as ...

I always used EzWxBrief. It would very accurately show me the cloud layers and air temps along my route. I believe it would have shown you the second cloud layer and would have provided some very relevant information for your go/no-go decision.

Did you put yourself in a "must be there today ...

Re: Identifying Ice

I guess the G1000 is smart enough to compare GPS speed with indicated airspeed and assess there is a fault in the airspeed. The backup was eratic, probably due to air pressure trapped in the pitot static system. One thing I did not think to check was alternate air. Potentially my normal static port ...

Re: Identifying Ice

Hey Steve. Appropriate questions. Since we were climbing in IMC, I was at 2700RPM. My assessment was that since the prop was already iced up at full RPM, full throttle, the best solution was to pull back throttle and descend as the vibration can cause secondary damage to prop, engine, mounts, etc ...

Re: Identifying Ice

Also be alert for prop roughness -- this happened to me once at 12,500' over central Texas. At the same time we picked up a burst of ice dust on the wing leading edges. We solved the wing issue by descending to warmer air... and shed the bit of ice on the prop by pushing up the prop RPMs to full ...
