Re: Prop Damage

Interesting discussion! I am in the camp of applying full power and checking engines before releasing brakes in my Austro DA42. This thread led me to go back and look at the POH. I had been under the assumption that the POH mandated a full power check prior to rolling but I agree that it is not defi...

Re: Leaseback Agreement

Steve - Apologies in advance that I am going to add to the negative arguments. In a previous life I had a Mooney M20J on lease back at a flight school. The flight school really did a good job on getting the rental hours ... 400-450 for a couple of years. BUT even with that and a lot of analysis in a...

I've done several trips with 4 adults in a DA42. You have to fuel plan of course but not bad for a 2-3hr leg. Depending on total pax weight I can do it with full mains and empty aux tanks.

Re: Austro E4-C Performance at Altitude

I haven't seen this yet on my 62, but in my 40NG I would exceed prop speed before a power limitation. I forget the max prop RPM in the 40NG, but there was enough power to spin the prop faster than the upper limit and trigger the flashing overspeed indication on the MFD. Bottom line, I needed to pul...

Re: Austro E4-C Performance at Altitude

Using this chart from the Austro Operations Manual, with climb power set to 92%, we should see 92% up to 10,000ft. Then 87% at 12,000, 80% at 14,500 and 75% at 16,000. I am seeing better than that ... eg 88% in climb at 14,000 on my last cross country flight. So it appears the engines are performing...

Re: TKS tanks and front baggage weight limit question

Jonathan - As stated by Emir, the TKS tank and the nose baggage compartment are separate items on the W&B loading. So the weight of the TKS fluid does not count against the 66lbs load limit for the nose compartment. From a practical perspective, I am usually flying with full or almost full TKS. ...

Re: Changing Flight Id / call sign

Thanks this is helpful; I’ve stopped using my NGF call sign because of nasty grams from the FAA complaining that my flight plan and transponder ID don’t match. I’ve been putting “Operating as NGF 5942” in the “additional remarks” section of my flight plans, but recently I’ve gotten some static from...

Re: Diamond DA4X, 50, 6X stabilized approach criteria

H Patrick - For the DA42 VI, the numbers you already have in FlySto seem reasonable. I like the idea of the approach score that you've included on this sample flight. Is that something you are planning on rolling out soon? I purchased the AirSync box at AirVenture and have found it works very well. ...

Re: Squat switch functions

I understand that the RH squat switch is used for the stall warning heating, the engine pre-glow, the ECU test and the TAS voice warning. Not sure about the In-air timer. It would make sense that one of them is wired for that but I'm not sure.
