Re: DA-40NG Purchase Advice

I rarely adjust the pedals as I am the only person who flys the airplane.
Does the NG not require the pedals to be all the way back to install the gust lock?

Re: DA62 Horizontal stabilizer AD

aircraft manufactured prior to the publishing of revision 3 of the AMM
My guess is that those s/ns were after they fixed the AMM, so unless the IAs were using the old revision it doesn't apply...

That being said, accidentally using an old revision is a very possible outcome!

Re: Tug for DA40 NG

FWIW I wasn't able to make the AC tug work if you need to pull the plane out of an indent in, say, a tiedown spot, or up a small asphalt ledge. I really wanted it to work though!

Re: The glaring weaknesses in flight training

Can you imagine GA pilots shelling out $5k every 6 months for recurrent training Well, the real question is whether the insurance companies can imagine requiring it for decent rates, and whether the claims/accidents they see would be affected by this training. I suspect they'd rather see 5k every 6...

Re: The glaring weaknesses in flight training

I spend a lot of time mulling over why the time-to-upset is so low for VMC in to IMC incidents - especially with modern avionics. Given that we can't ever ask the pilots why, all we can really do is pontificate, and my suspicion is it's this exact thing. I personally would like to see flight simulat...

Re: DA50 vs The World

If the gear is bouncy then one could argue that you end up more often executing more demanding go-arounds which due to the increased skill requirement have an increased likelihood of failure. I don't have any skin in this game but I could definitely see how functionally always requiring a soft field...

AHRS / HDG issue

I'm running in to some weirdness. After around 30-40 minutes of flight my HSI heading starts to drift by +/- 5-10 degrees. This ends up causing a large wind report. It's a lot worse with Rich's LEMO convertor running a lightspeed headset. At first I thought it was backtalk from that however I flew t...

Re: Rear Door departs a DA40 after takeoff

To check it, open the door a few inches and move the latch lever, it should snap to both the open and closed position and be held there by the spring. If it is possible to leave the latch lever in any position the the spring is not doing its job and the latch could vibrate open during flight. I per...

Re: DA40 Ground Speed Challenge

I had a shot at 200 kts a few weeks ago due to some puget sound convergence zone winds but sadly I would have needed to turn directly in to the SEA bravo to pull it off. :(
