Re: Portable battery pack for Tanis heater

Definitely something to consider - the battery goes in a storage locker on the ramp while charging and stays with me the rest of the time. I'm not at all an expert but I believe the LFP chemistry used in these battery packs is also quite a bit safer than the older types of Li-Ion batteries.

Re: Portable battery pack for Tanis heater

I use an Ecoflow River 2 Pro and it's been working decently well for me. Advertised capacity is ~750Wh, because of the cold I find it will realistically only supply ~550Wh. When plugged in, the pre-heater pulls 270W and I get a good enough lift on temperatures with 2 hours on the battery. If I were ...

Re: Engine overhaul time - Lycoming IO-360-M1A

We're putting in an overhauled engine in ours now. The quote I got from Penn Yan back in December was $39k with overhauled Penn Yan steel cylinders, or $43k with factory new. The lead time was 20 weeks for an overhaul or an exchange, so we ended up going with Aerotec in Canada. 10 weeks end to end ...

Re: Checklists and procedure plates

I am loyal to a laminated checklist, and ended up designing my own. I found it to be a great way to build familiarity with the airplane while incorporating extra items here and there, and keeping aircraft parameters and airspeeds easy to access. I like the smaller format so I can bring the checklist ...

Re: Have you damaged your DA40 prop during ground handling?

I thought I would add to this, as our prop is back from blade repair at MT in Florida. We had a crack on the metal leading edge. The plane is operated in a club environment so we're not sure exactly what happened. MT's best guess is indeed ground handling. They say it's the most probable cause for a ...

Re: Intermittent Alternator CAS Warning

I realize I forgot to provide an update - it was indeed the alternator brushes. It is a 500hr inspection item in the Diamond maintenance manual but apparently our Diamond service center missed that inspection, and our local shop found the brushes completely worn out.

Thank you for the help and ...

Re: Intermittent Alternator CAS Warning

Thank you both for the help, it seems very promising! I will bring that up to our A&P and revert once he's had time to take a look. Thanks again!

Intermittent Alternator CAS Warning

Good morning Diamond aviators,

We're experiencing an intermittent alternator CAS warning on our 2008 DA40. I searched on the forum, and found some information (replacement of loose resistor with a PCB-mounted one), but that Service Bulletin does not apply to our serial number.

Here is what we are ...

Re: Tail tiedown hook

Old thread, but I found an elegant solution so I thought I'd share with the forum as I'm sure many people find that thread when looking for the elusive tail tie down solution for the DA40!
I've had a good experience with PowerTye products in the past, and noticed they were selling what they call a ...
