Re: Video of wake turbulence knocking a light aircraft out the sky, plus avoidance tips

DA20 pilots have survived helicopter wake incidents -- http://www.kathrynsreport.com/2014/01/diamond-da20-fort-carsons-butts-army.html The link serves as a great advisory. Despite the crash, the text below seems crazy "Current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ATC guidance does not require...

Re: Video of wake turbulence knocking a light aircraft out the sky, plus avoidance tips

Wow, that's crazy. just a low pass from a small helicopter?! Seems like I've never given these enough thought or consideration and I'll be more conscious of helicopters in the future. Thanks for sharing! Yes! I had never stumbled upon anything which so clearly illustrated the dangers light aircraft...

Video of wake turbulence knocking a light aircraft out the sky, plus avoidance tips

Posting here, in the DA20 forum, as the 20's are the lightest of the diamonds - with apologies if this is a repost. I had no idea wake turbulence could turn a light aircraft upside down in under 2 seconds. The Tips given after the footage make excellent learning material. I hope this helpful video i...

Re: Potential New DA62 Owner

Size-wise, the DA62 is (I may be off a little) 8" wider than an SR22 as well as "taller" in cabin height. Definitely put your family in a SR22 and see how they "fit".....and take into account "growth"! I've had 5 adults in our 62 very comfortably - 2 up front, 2 i...

Re: Brand New DA42 - Thank you Vladimir

Several reasons to downsize #1. I used the 600 and TBM for work mostly and needed to get there. I don’t have the sense of urgency I used to have. #2. The cost to fly and maintain those planes is much higher than the DA42. I hardly ever used the 6 seats. #3. The DA42 is fun to fly, great visibility ...

Re: How to plan a fuel stop?

Everything you will need chart-wise is electronic. No paper charts (unless you want them). The G1000 has the charts in them, and your iPad does too. You pay for the subscription to ForeFlight (or Garmin Pilot or whichever electronic flight bag you prefer) and you get the charts. In the newer implem...

Re: How to plan a fuel stop?

Since it seems like you're based in the UK, I'll give some Europe specific advice: - First, I find airports along the route that could serve as potential stops - Then, I'll check for airport comments (in Europe, this is usually via Skydemon or http://you-fly.com/ ) - Finally, I'll check for fuel pr...
