Re: Interested in DA40 Partnership East Bay Cali
Just a small correction: You don't need WAAS to get your IFR (fly an ILS). Though I agree having WAAS would be ideal.

Re: No plans for Diamond GFC 500 autopilot?
Gave up the fight, bit the bullet, and purchased a 2008 XLS. N314SE will be going up for sale any day now; and for whoever is in the market for something like this, it's gotta be one of, if not the, cleanest steam gauge DA40's in existence. Would have much rather kept it and installed a modern ...

Re: No plans for Diamond GFC 500 autopilot?
I think it's purely economic/market driven: They don't want to devalue the GFC700 models. Imagine you could upgrade a GFC500 AP/G3X/750NXi combo in a 2003 DA-40. That's a lot cheaper than buying a G1000+GFC700 given the current used market pricing right now.
I don't believe you can go to ...

Re: No plans for Diamond GFC 500 autopilot?
I don't think there is a single technical reason why the GFC500 (awesome AP, use one in a 182 all the time) can't be installed in a DA40.

Re: Recommended 75% cruise vs max 92% cruise
The difference I think is you can just replace a cylinder in a IO360. I don’t think you can do that in an Astro? It seems like an all or nothing affair.

Re: No plans for Diamond GFC 500 autopilot?
At this point, call me desperate! I’m one of those types who always believes if there’s enough will, there’s just got to be a way. But then along came my 2003 DA40 with no A/P. I absolutely love it, paid almost nothing (especially considering today’s market) for it, and had hoped by now there ...

Re: G1000 NXi missing RNAV approach
Keep in mind, some of the GPS AR approaches require training as well (alert when GPS does fail). Bottom line: Your avionics are only going to allow you to select approaches it can fly.
