My airplane is at 2086 hours and still has compressions in the high 70s and good oil analysis. I'll probably start using a borescope at the next annual. I think there's more risk with a new engine than with mine at this time.

Re: planning a trip down to the san fran area
I based in Livermore KLVK for a year or so. It's a bit further out than OAK and especially SQL (or PAO) but much more relaxed and BART is just up the road in Pleasanton. Have a great time, I miss the Bay Area more than I expected! PS Make sure you fly to Lake Tahoe if you get time.

Re: Landing help for the DA40
My second suggestion to all is to go get checked out in a tail wheel (conventional gear) type aircraft. You will be a far better pilot after you master landings in a Citabria or Decathlon type airplane. Learn the art of flying in addition to the art of pushing buttons on your G-1000. What! Heresy! ...

Re: Magneto Failure in FL160 over the Carpates
Yes, it's always fun when the EGT starts going crazy as you're about to cross some of the highest and most rugged terrain in the continental United States. It must have been a loose probe because it didn't recur. I had the probe checked at the next oil change and it seems secure. If it fails again, ...

Re: Magneto Failure in FL160 over the Carpates
I put the tank behind the front seats and run the pipe between the seats. I put bags and things on top of the tank to stop it moving around in bumpy air. I think my pipe is also too long and I also run it on maximum output. My blood ox at FL175 was around 90% if I recall correctly. I'll try a shorte...

Re: Magneto Failure in FL160 over the Carpates
I did not know what caused the EGT to jump. I just enriched the mixture. I only realized half the spark plugs were gone after landing. You use Mountain High? And got the DA40 to climb above FL160? I found the climb rate to drop to 100-200 fpm above FL 150 and not much room to go higher. But I was a...
