Re: Ice Protection!

If I was you I would contact Diamond Austria, they are the design holder for your airplane, this may be just a case of missing flight supplement from your handbook, and corresponding placards.............

Re: Leaning the DA20 C1 IO240 engine

Also to Calgary and back, same thing. If you are doing proper maintenance/oil changes etc, no harm done except to you...

Re: Canopy locking mechanism

Barry, here is a link to a maintenance manual revision, your issue may be related to the gas strut, which holds the over-center mechanism from unlocking. Over time the gas can leak from the strut, hence a 3000 hour/6 year time limitation has been added. http://support.diamond-air.at/fileadmin/upload...

A small point, but important, ensure the cable fitting is not too tight on either end, if over-tightened, tachometer will give erratic readings....

Re: Max altitude in DA20-C1

Craig, you're correct. The service ceiling is a 'performance-based' limitation. Not an Operating limitation. When your rate-of-climb is down to approx 100'/minute, you have reached the service ceiling, and Normal operation of the aircraft above that altitude may not be reached.
