Re: G1000 and GIA63W WAAS Upgrade Issue (mid-2019 update)

I wonder if it would be in Continental's interest to fund the STC, tying it to their CD-155 engines? :D

Re: G1000 and GIA63W WAAS Upgrade Issue (mid-2019 update)

Diamond's attitude towards G1000 software upgrades reminds me of my late mum who, after buying a new lampshade for a table lamp, insisted that the whole room needed to be redecorated to match it! One of the reasons I've sold my DA40TDI.

Keith, does your new TDI come with WAAS?
It was new when I bought it in 2006, so no WAAS. No G1000 software updates since then either.

Re: Outdated Garmin G1000 software - petition sign-up

Having paid €310k for a brand new DA40 TDI, I'm not amongst them either!

Re: 1,000-lb useful load? +BRS?

I definitely hold that the same pilot in their first 500 hours is a lot safer in a DA40 than an SR22 even with the chute in play. That's why I bought one. Their primary safety features are better than the SR2x, but Cirrus compensate with secondary safety, apart from their wet wings which have a ten...

Re: 1,000-lb useful load? +BRS?

my position has always been that a DA40 in full stall descends 700fpm and the SR22 under the chute is 1,500fpm. (Yes, I know there is forward motion with the stall and all of that.) I don't think you should encourage people to think there is any equivalence between the two, as a full stall into the...

Re: Outdated Garmin G1000 software - petition sign-up

Are my fears exaggerated, or could we end up with a generation of certified aircraft, not just from Diamond, eventually being grounded if Garmin stop manufacturing parts for the G1000? Any newer technology would have to be certified in these older airframes, which depends on the largess of the aircr...

Re: Outdated Garmin G1000 software - petition sign-up

Having committed itself to Centurion engines for the DA50,I suppose they could play hardball with Diamond, if Diamond try to use the avionics issue to force DA4x customers to switch to Austro engines. As both Centurion and Diamond are now Chinese owned, the ball may not have to be that hard!

you can't just swap an Austro in place of a CD. Presumably you'd need to convert the airframe into an NG.
That's right. The conversion gives you a nice increase in MAUW, along with an 11% increase in stall speeds.
