Re: What comes after a DA40?
Antoine, it looks like a great choice. I considered it myself but I was concerned about maintaining it here in Minnesota with so few in the market. I have to admit, I am I bit jealous of you for going for it. I am 40 minutes by air from the Cirrus factory so I have gone with a SR22. However, I think...

Re: Garmin Data Bases
I fly IFR most of the time and I agree that the best place for your approach plates is a tablet. I use an iPad mini with ForeFlight and back that up with a good sized Android phone running Avare (for free). Avare is much more convenient that the iPad for getting runway data and frequencies. I set th...

Re: How low do you fly for cross country?
I too typically fly above 7,000 cross country but when I am below 6,000 I limit MP to 2450 and RPM to 2500 (usually 2430) because I feel like the engine could hurt itself with the greater power at lower altitudes. This is typically just over 10 GPH. I keep the EGT at or below 1500 because I am worri...

Re: Factory Work
I was going to do my annual, prop rebuild and a few other things along with the wing spar there in December. I worked with Adriaan (Ed) Hollestelle (ahollestelle@diamondair.com) to get an estimate. It sounded like they regularly work directly with owners. He was very helpful but with the prop, the t...

Re: wing walk replacement
While flying at 8,000 feet at minus 22 degrees Celsius (149 Knots TAS) I felt a pull like something hit the airplane and the right wing dropped slightly. My first thought was a bird strike but it was January in northern Minnesota at 8,000 feet. Everything appeared fine so I continued to my destinati...

Re: Winter ops in the DA40
I fly in Minnesota and North Dakota into small airports and I always take the pants off although it costs me about 5 knots. It is not the snow or slush inside the pants that concerns me. It is the clearance to the ground and the likelihood of hitting a small chunk or ridge of ice or packed snow. I c...

Re: Looking for Insurance Broker/Company in the US
Robert, I have worked with Wings Insurance as well. I first worked with them on a recommendation that they had experience with other Diamond owners and know which companies appreciated the Diamond safety record. I have had my DA40 insured with them since 2009 and have also purchased insurance on a P...

There are getting to be more aviation diesel options out there. Does anyone know why they don't they consider using one?
