Re: G1000/NXi Evolution for Diamond Owners

There's also a wiki section which is intended for stuff like this but which doesn't get much attention. I can work on making it more visible and easily accessible if there's interest.

Re: G1000 Legacy & NXI Software Upgrades Announcement

ESP & USP are already part of the Diamond GFC AP - sort of joined at the hip and function ONLY when the AP=ON. Slight clarification: ESP functions whether or not the AP is on, but it can be disabled before flight via the AUX page. USP only kicks in if the AP is on. I've found it challenging to ...

Just so I understand. Are those conversions of a DA40 G1000 or of an analog DA40?
Only the first photo is of a DA40D; the rest must be from a Cessna based on the yoke. The Diamond appears to be a 2004 model, so I'd assume that it was an analog panel before the conversion.

Re: Chapter 42 begins

Beautiful shots over the Grand Canyon, Dave. I hope it's OK that I made the video inline with the post so people could see it more easily. I'm assuming you just used a static mount? It looked like the angle changed slightly during the flight, but I'm guessing that's just due to wind moving things ar...

Re: New Nose Wheel Fin

I'd like to see somebody ask an A&P to install and sign off the fin as a minor alteration. Compared to some of the camera contraptions I've seen approved as such, the fin should have less of an effect on "weight, balance, structural strength, performance, powerplant operation, flight charac...

What are you mounting on the wing?
I've attached one of the NFlightCam mounts as shown in this thread and am planning on using it with a GoPro Hero 8. But we haven't had a chance to try it out yet since the weather turned uncooperative as soon as I installed it.

Re: Chapter 42 begins

Chris - how is the view from the 42 versus your 40? Seriously. Are you looking at engines either way, or is there still a view out the side? The view out front is terrific, but the side views aren't nearly as nice as the DA40. My wife likes to take photos out of the "emergency window" and...

Re: Coolant leak

Dave would know better for the DA62, but the DA42 AMM shows two bleed nipples in the system. One is on the aluminum tube from the water pump and the other is on an aluminum tube forward of the thermostat valve. FWIW, my engine oil is also pretty much black just ~10 hours out of annual. I'm guessing ...

Re: IFR / What should I have done?

I've been bitten by the fly-by waypoint behavior a couple of times. I don't know if there's a better way, but I've learned to just peek at the MFD to see when it's going to turn early and switch into HDG mode on the present heading if I don't want to cut the corner. Since you were going to be on a v...

Checking gearbox oil level

I'm curious if there is a specified amount of gearbox oil that must be visible in the small glass viewport, or if any visible oil is sufficient. The AFM simply says "check visually" and also says "if the gearbox oil quantity is too low, an unscheduled maintenance is necessary" wi...
