Re: New Cirrus Trainer
You can make fun of the landing gear switch, but it teaches a flow for the landing and allows them to take a Commercial ticket checkride, and they will probably move on to a complex twin from there. No they can't - retractable gear and variable prop pitch is required. Yeah they can. Complex airplan...

Avionics shops withing reasonable distance of Chicago
Hey fellow Diamond drivers, anyone knows of a good avionics shop within a reasonable flying distance of Chicago?
G1000 DA40F, need to install the 345R and ideally before or shortly after 1 Jan 2020.
Any recommendations would be hugely appreciated

Re: DA40: Fuel stains around drain
Nah, it's nowhere close to $6k, but still hurts at $1.2-1.8k (can't remember)
Had to replace mine - had a bad o-ring on the fuel cap which lead to some water in the tank which lead to pinhole corrosion by the drain valve

Re: DA40 crash in Russia
Another 40NG down in Russia last week.
Simulated engine out, dropped left wing and nosed down while recovering from a right turn to short final. Impact 150 m (that's what.. 450 ft) from runway end, parts scattered 30 m (100 ft). Two fatal

Re: DA40 crash in Russia
Must be different on 40NG than 42-VI On 40NG Tundra (saw the pictures) both are metal levers with a safety pin, both are on the left, pump is slightly smaller in the diameter, but otherwise identical operation See page 79 of the report here http://mak.ru/russian/investigations/2014/report_ra-01726.pdf

Re: DA40 crash in Russia
The final report is out on this Student switched off Engine Master instead of the Fuel Pump at <300 ft. That was followed by an attemp to turn back towards the airport (nothing but forest ahead) and subsequent stall and spin. Contributing factors - bad ergonomics of the switches (way to the left and...

I'd say let's do fall - we enjoyed flying up the hills but were too early for the fall colors. Would love to do that again

Re: DA40 crash in Russia
Very preliminary - local news based on what the flight school colleagues said: - engine out after take-off at 80-100m of altitude, unsuccessful forced landing into obstructions from the Russian CAA: - aircraft crashed into a forest after take-off, making crosswind turn about 1000m from the departure...
