Re: PIREP on DA40 Supercharged Performance

Peter, the cowling mod is coordinated by FAT... they send the lower cowling out to a composite shop. The mod involves a "bulge" just below the left air inlet.

Dave, thanks for the thorough and thoughtful response. I'd say we're very much in sync on all these points.
We'll see how this Caribbean trip plays out... I'm expecting we'll have many adjustments to make :) .
Thanks again, and have a great year flying!

Re: PIREP on DA40 Supercharged Performance

Thanks, Antoine, for the idea of the IAT probe. I'll check with my shop and FAT to see how doable that might be. I only have an indirect feel on inlet temps by what effect the SC has had -- in fact, not had -- on maintaining CHTs. Before and after the SC install, I maintain climb CHTs <400 degF and ...

Re: PIREP on DA40 Supercharged Performance

Hi Wayne - My airplane is coming in for its annual in a short while and I'm pondering the supercharger. How has it been? Any updates on performance, life in the air, and an engine breathing better at altitude? Many thanks Peter Hi, Peter, I'm a fan of both the Supercharger and the company FAT. The ...

Now, that clockwise explanation on windward/leeward makes sense!
We’ll also make more effort to get down by noon.
Cool stuff! Thx.

Re: Do we need a Plan B already!? Weather Analysis for Flying the Caribbean...

Russ, you are awesome on this stuff! Curiosity question... since the trade winds are from the ENE, how come the Leeward Islands (e.g. BVI, Nevis) are on the Windward side, and the opposite for the Windward Islands (St. Vincent, Trinidad)?? Do you find EMCWF or GFS better than the other for the Carib...

Wolfgang... thanks, I agree about avoiding advanced booking... but my non-pilot friend who's on the trip and assigned to "research" lodging got a bit overeager and indeed booked some. If weather or mechanical issues arise, we will certainly not hesitate to divert/delay and forego any lodging deposit...
