Re: Flying the Caribbean (Part 7) - to Nevis -- Hopping Off and On Islands

Steve, thanks for checking it out. You might find Part 1 of the series useful for planning, whether single engine or twin. BTW, for the Bahamas you're almost never beyond glide range... we carried a life raft, but for the Bahamas life vests are enough. Yes, I noticed the backup AI hadn't yet spun up...

Flying the Caribbean (Part 7) - to Nevis -- Hopping Off and On Islands

VbyK7xHZx-g A lovely one hour flight Dominica to Nevis. Takeoff to spec and awesome scenery. With the airfield at Dominica a bit on the short side and the largest rocks on the southend, we had a concern for a southerly wind... fortunately, winds were calm this day. Still made sure to check the 70%/...

Re: Flying the Caribbean (Part 6) - to Dominica -- An unspoiled, unheralded gem of an island

Another delightful video of that trip! I'd like to take this opportunity to plug my favorite island non-profit. Hands Across the Sea brings books to school libraries across the Caribbean . It was started by some cruisers whom I met when sailing there and I met again with Harriet Linskey, co-founder...

Flying the Caribbean (Part 6) - to Dominica -- An unspoiled, unheralded gem of an island

W_nlKcyZhpM A simple two-hour flight from BVI to Dominica. A few broken cloud layers and a short field with terrain at each end await us. Rather than the 4-to-8 flight-hour days of previous episodes, this time we get to devote more video time to in-cockpit details and decision making. I had practic...

Richard, agreed. We can only hope that ADS-B can be very soon implemented in all control rooms worldwide. It's a bit sad that sitting in my aircraft on an instrument approach that I have way more insight as to the traffic environment than the controller has (Tower controller, in this video).

Flying the Caribbean (Part 5) - to Virgin Gorda -- Tower turned him right toward us!

tqIDdNRHWNw On to the British Virgin Islands, awesome scenery, warm waters, and great food... but a sketchy moment where on-board traffic and eye balls overruled a Tower clearance. Controllers... if you're working a non-radar environment, why wouldn't you bring a laptop to work (or whatever) so tha...

Re: Flying the Caribbean (Part 4) - to South Caicos -- Ever been in a Holding stack with 2 airliners?

Peter, yes at MBSC they do have customs/immigration and are listed as an AOE... actually the small staff is shared with the harbor at Cockburn. The customs/immigration officer cleared us to depart MBSC for TUPJ... it was Provo ATC that nixed that nice idea. Now I'm wondering if we could have departe...

Re: Flying the Caribbean (Part 4) - to South Caicos -- Ever been in a Holding stack with 2 airliners?

Peter, you are totally correct... the colors in the Bahamas and T&C are indeed beautiful! Regarding Turks & Caicos, we found the locals very friendly (especially on South Caicos) and had no real issue with customs/immigration... our problem pretty much centers on Provo, and apparently MBPV ATC (and ...
