Re: Removing G1000 from a Da40?

Wow!- lightweight DA40 LG. I think the factory design is meant to be totally noob proof and nothing else. Titanium is roughly same strength and half the weight. It would save between 25 and 30 lbs. Add Beringer Wheels and brakes... Can you point me to the Seattle company? My Extra 400's main landing...

Re: Removing G1000 from a Da40?

:) thanks Brock. Well you finally managed to make your dream come true and I think I can say the same about my Extra 400. I wonder how much can be done on the avionics side of the DA40 - I still love the aircraft and in retrospect I realize how un-VFR the G1000 was ... I hope more people contribute ...

Re: Removing G1000 from a Da40?

Thanks Bret. Can you post a picture? Did your Aspen perform reliably?
I have been told they overheat and fail frequently - is this no longer the case?

Removing G1000 from a Da40?

Call me crazy, but here is the thinking. > I have 1'000 hours behind a G1000 with GFC 700 and I believe that this combo is inadequate for the DA40, especially so if the DA40 is used primarily in VFR. My thesis is that its capability is not exercised enough to make up for the poor user interface and ...

Re: DA-40 checkride help

A generic set of suggestions Evan. Examiners are pilots above all, so they are happy and proud to give a thumbs up to a decent candidate. Go to him with the right attitude - no need to be fearful, rather be curious about him, his experience. This said, one needs to deserve their initial goodwill and...

Re: Corked Nose Wheel

@Rich BTW - couldn't help notice your vent naca. If you tape off the bottom half you will have much less noise and more air. I concur with Brock that the air vent noise (esp the high frequency screech) is cut to less than half with the glider tape solution. Here's a quasi-scientific study I did: ht...

Re: Corked Nose Wheel

BTW - couldn't help notice your vent naca. If you tape off the bottom half you will have much less noise and more air. Absolutely. And if you do it, do it right, not like me. All of sudden I heard a strange noise coming from the engine compartment and made an emergency landing. The tape had gone lo...

Re: Corked Nose Wheel

I would have offered up my fairing for drafting but I have a partner in the plane and we fly a lot and didn’t want to go without it for several long cross countries. So I’ve been hoping he found an available one located close to him. But I will say what he has so far is a solid design and looks sha...

Re: What comes after a DA40?

Amazing point of view @Steve - how did you attach it?. I am thinking of adding a pair of go pros on both lifting points of the wings to record airflow on the fuselage. The exhaust makes a lot of soot and must really be disrupting the airflow. I'd like a little fairing be added to prevent this from p...
