Re: Battery capacity test

True. And like you said, most owners and mechanics never do one. So you are definitely ahead of the game...

Re: Battery capacity test

Steve How do you account for the accuracy of my method with a new battery? Peter: You don't know that it was accurate - you presume it was accurate because you think that you know the load placed on it. But, as I stated earlier, your current estimates for the different loads are just that - estimat...

Re: That innocuous foam cover

I have some spares in the airplane. My headsets are all David Clark. I generally replace them only when they start to fall apart (which in my case tends to be about 2 - 3 years).

Re: Battery capacity test

Peter: You are correct that the load tester I have cannot discharge at the full C1 rate. But it can discharge at an exact, regulated current, not affected by battery voltage, temperature, etc. For most batteries, discharging at less than the C1 rate will give a slightly optimistic capacity value. Th...

Re: Battery capacity test

Just a note... Concorde specifies that the capacity test should be performed by discharging the battery at the C1 rate (15 amperes in the case of the RG24-15M, or 11 amperes in the case of the RG24-11M). Your figures, if accurate, only total about 11.5 amps. Plus, there may be other loads (avionics ...

Re: Maintaining proficiency in these times

I haven't flown in a couple of weeks. First week I was in AZ hiking and then moving my FIL to San Antonio. Last week weather was bad for flying. I hope to get out early next week - since my aircraft is in the hangar by itself, I can practice social distancing. I do need to get up in the air, my airp...

Re: Fire extinguishers

I'd consider something like this for the engine compartment if I had an experimental:

Re: Fire extinguishers

Just came across this YouTube video. For me it is hard to watch. Makes me glad that I have an extinguisher in my aircraft, two of them at my home field's fuel pumps, and another in my hangar. It also reinforces the importance of getting the agent on early in the event...

Re: tail tie-down solution

Same here but I have noticed some silver-gray rub marks around the hole. Not sure if it is something that would buff out but I have purchased a rope shackle to try. I was concerned about paint abrasions, so I place a fiber washer between each side of the “U” shackle and the fin. Takes a little long...
