Re: AOPA Best Aircraft contest

I put in my tail number, figuring I could nominate a PARTICULAR plane.

Re: DA50 turbine

We compare apples with pears all the time. If the pears are ripe, I choose a pear. Apples have a better range and are more tart. I had a deposit on the DA50. I am smarter now. One of the old DA40 pilots from the old board is now tooling around in an Evolution. I can't wrap my head around climbing in...

Re: You are the boss!

The second time I collected a little ice on my wings I asked for lower. ATC said they couldn't because they had opposite direction traffic (a King Air) below me, but I could descend in two minutes. I said that if more ice formed on the wings than I was comfortable with I would be declaring an emerge...

Re: Sony Action Cam/mount and Mercalli Stabilization softwar

The mounting is what keeps me from using a GoPro. I think I need a physical connection to the plane. I guess that means a 377 or something. I don't care about losing a $400 camera. I care a LOT about dropping an item on someone below. And I worry about what dropping that item means for the FARs. I'm...

Re: Congrat's Dave

I really liked Signature at Dulles. Flying is so expensive that I don't really notice a big difference between the "expensive" FBOs and the less expensive ones. I do notice that the service at a place like Signature Dulles is bend-over-backwards nice to us. I assume they think I'm a charte...

Re: Kids and locking the rear door.

I had my little boys in the back from when they were 9 and 7 (that's part of my tail number, Rudy and Dexter). They never touched the red handle. They were told a few times at the beginning how it worked and how seriously we took things in the plane. ("Don't make me land this plane!") It w...

Re: Aircraft Tug

I have not seen that one in action, Steve, but I know that Angel City Flyers in Long Beach uses one. It looks a LOT like this one that I found on the web: http://www.tracetowbots.com/products/heavy-duty-towbot Pretty sure it is not cheap, but I've watched them yank a DA42 around with it without the ...

Re: I chickened out

Antoine, can't you make some friends at your local airport to drop you for that sort of pickup?

I do those sorts of flights for people all the time out of Santa Monica. I'm always happy to drop someone at Long Beach, Bakersfield, Pomona...

Re: An Important Lesson

I was beating my brother to Boeing Field. There are two tower frequencies. He had our mom in his little Cessna and asked over *his* side of the tower frequencies if "you could help us out and grade the landing of that Diamondstar ahead of us." The controller gave me a B+ which didn't feel ...

Re: DA40 crash in Peru

The controllers don't know the limitations of all of the aircraft. (Although that would be a cool computer system for them to have.) If they assign you something you can't do in the aircraft you are meant to say, "Unable." They can ask for clarification.
