Re: Austro Engines

The original 1.7 litre Mercedes engine used by Thielert had an aluminium block. Mercedes superseded it with a 2 litre cast iron block, and Thielert chose to adapt it with their own aluminium block so that it could be substituted with no change to W&B. This expense, for the benefit of Diamond, he...

Re: Outdated Garmin G1000 software - petition sign-up

To get a meeting you will have to contact the company and say something like: "A petition with XX signatures of owners is XX percent of diamonds flying. Having a large successful owner base is critical to the future success of the company. A meeting is requested to discuss what is needed to ge...

Re: Jeppen vs. Garmin nav data

The Garmin loader wrote a tiny 4-byte file to the root of the SD card, and created an empty folder called 'ldr_sys' - at least, that's all I can see from my Windows PC. You won't see any files in the ldr_sys folder with Windows Explorer, because they have the hidden (and maybe system) attributes se...

Re: CD-155 Temporary power loss

Hopefully, this announcement from Technify means that they've found and fixed the problem, which I never experienced: We inform you that we have just released an improved FADEC software. This software was especially developed to improve the combustion process under full power conditions. At the same...

Re: Path to ADS-B & WAAS for older DA40s

Reinhard, Thanks for all that background information. I did consider getting the WAAS hardware upgrade, but the CAA have really dragged their feet about implementing such approaches here in the UK, so I never got around to it and it's too late now! The software upgrades would be worthwhile on their ...

Re: Path to ADS-B & WAAS for older DA40s

Unfortunately announcement of features by Garmin does not mean, that these features are really available. This strongly depends on the compilation requested by the TC holder. Reinhard, the latest GDU release from Diamond for the DA40D is 5.02, so isn't the TC holder for your aircraft Urbe Aero, as ...

Re: Outdated Garmin G1000 software - petition sign-up

FYI, Cessna owners have the same issue: If you have a legacy G1000 172/182/206, the newest software available is outdated and is not the latest GDU 15.XX that can run on legacy G1000s. I didn't know that, thanks. However, I bet they have all been updated since 2006, which is the latest release for ...

Re: Outdated Garmin G1000 software - petition sign-up

The reality is that the G1000 is a 15yr old computer, irrespective of when it was installed. There are limits on what you can expect from a 15yr old computer. That's true, but all most of us are asking for is the latest release of the software which can be run on our obsolete hardware - same as is ...

Re: KAP140

Here's a couple of disadvantages of the KAP140 which you need to be aware of:
  1. It will fly you into a stall if you set a rate of climb for which there is not enough power to sustain as you climb higher.
  2. It will not fly the procedure turn of an instrument approach.
