Re: Prop governor

My 2003 DA40 with the Aluminum Hartzel PowerFlow Version prop is 1703 lb and 95.2. I've just replaced the aluminum prop with the Hartzel Composite. Awaiting the final numbers because the prop governor had to be overhauled when the new prop failed to make the required full power RPM. I am very glad I...

Re: Standby instruments

In the 2001-03 non-G1000 DA40s the emergency battery powers the mechanical attitude indicator as well. However, many of us have replaced that instrument with an electronic AI, which has its own battery so only the floodlight is powered.

Gen 1 DA40/42 Cockpit Jet Shades

I recently upgraded my DA40 Jet Shades to the newer thin version for my cockpit. Thus, I have two (pilot and co-pilot) first generation shades for sale. They are in good shape with no visible delaminations. (The original ones were replaced for free by JetShade when they developed them.) The newer on...

Re: Annual frustration

Dan- Some of your costs seem unusually high compared to mine. I replaced my NLG this year for 4k in parts and shipping and $300 in labor (vice your 7K). I bought the strut from Premier in Florida. Also, although it was four years ago versus your replacement this year, my MLG tires were $530 and labo...

Re: Annual frustration

Dan- I feel your pain. I am also a non-mechanically inclined rookie owner of a DA40 that is seven serial numbers from yours (40.277). I'm also strongly interested in making sure my aircraft is as safe as I can make it. (One of the reasons I chose the DA40 over other aircraft was its excellent, real ...

Re: Economics of keeping plane in a hangar

I'm currently on a tiedown for $150/month but moving back into a rental hanger that just became available for $425/month. The advantages of a hanger for me, in addition to those mentioned, are keeping the engine warm in the winter, protection from thunderstorms and other strong winds, pre-flighting ...

Re: Large vs Small Rudder Performance

Steve- Are you going with a new or used large rudder? Price? I'm considering the same mod. Thanks. Bernie

Re: AOPA's McSpadden killed in crash

This hit me hard as well. I looked up the IFR departure procedures. They faced some very serious obstacles on both ends of the runway in dealing with their emergency. That may explain why, according to AOPA, they were trying to make it back to the runway. LAKE PLACID (LKP) TAKEOFF MINIMUMS AND (OBST...
