Re: MSB-E4-042 - Crankshaft-bearing cap screws replacement
What I find most annoying is the lack of transparency. We become aware of a catastrophic failure or other major problem, and then we wait. Maybe it was maintenance induced, like the intake manifold's on the 40NG, or badly wired ECU backups on the 62. Or, maybe it's a critical engine problem like the...

Re: MSB-E4-042 - Crankshaft-bearing cap screws replacement
I'm by no means a manufacturing expert, but it's obvious to me that Mercedes was able to utilize modern statistical quality control practices when producing its high-volume car engines, whereas Austro cannot do this as a small volume "boutique" producer. 280+ engines affected suggests thi...

Re: MSB-E4-042 - Crankshaft-bearing cap screws replacement
I wish Austro owners were due an explanation on the mishap for the cost and inconvenience caused. Agreed! Austro/Wanfeng has turned a great engine into an unreliable source of recurring ADs. I don't know if it's incompetence or cost cutting, but the last three ADs, all of which resulted in catastro...

Re: How to best buy a Diamond Aircraft and afford the lifestyle
To Rich's point, partnerships can be challenging. I suggest the best way to share your plane is through a dry lease, not co-ownership. The economics can be similar but you remain in control. There are other threads here which discuss dry leasing. Yeah I did skip on that detail. My partner and I own...

Re: Accelerated IFR training in DA40 - recommendations?
ifr6 is supposed to be good accelerated program. afit for ppl was disappointing They're essentially a broker and I think it depends on the instructor you get. The AFIT IR instructor I used at KLHM in California at was excellent. I used GATTS in Manhattan, KS and they were horrible. The instructor l...
