Re: Transponder Ground Mode Gone
Rich, I spent some more time today researching this and from what I can find in GARMIN docs 'ALT' mode now replaces 'GND' mode. That is whether on the ground or in the air the 'ALT' mode should be selected and the GTX 345 will determine what to transmit on its own. 2018-08-31_21-55-45.png That make...

Re: Potential New DA62 Owner
I've had my DA62 for almost a year now and I can give some feedback. First, one thought on the lack of a parachute. If your wife is so inclined, you can create an emergency checklist and have her learn how to use the autopilot and FMS. Being able to engage the autopilot, contact ATC and then program...

Re: Cold Temperature Operation
Yes, it has heater cores similar to a car. The right engine provides heat for your feet and the left engine is for the windshield defrost.

Re: Cold Temperature Operation
OK, mission accomplished. Here's a little PIREP regarding the trip. At departure, temp was -36C. I flew for about an hour and landed at -33C. It's important to note, this flight was in sunlight and that makes a big difference. On our return the temp was warmer but the sun was setting and the cockpit...

Re: Cold Temperature Operation
Jet A (common in the US) has a freezing point of -40 C. Are your fuel tanks heated? (As they are on many turbine aircraft). Yes, the AFM requires engine start with fuel at -30C or higher. After start, the engines recirculate warm fuel to the tanks so that should keep it above -30C from then on.

Cold Temperature Operation
Does anyone have any feedback on flying the DA62 in very cold temperatures? Specifically, I have a flight planned tomorrow and right now the forecast is for -37C at departure. I'm aware of the fuel restriction of being warmer than -30C at engine start but it's in a heated hangar so that shouldn't be...

Re: Source of precipitation induced vibration found - antenna
I'd file a new aircraft warranty claim with Diamond for your antenna. FIKI-equipped planes shouldn't have antennas break due to icing. I'm pretty sure the antenna was initially damaged on the ground by someone grabbing it and causing it to crack. This led to the vibration in precipitation (both ici...

Source of precipitation induced vibration found - antenna
For the past several months whenever I flew through rain or snow I would get an odd vibration in the airplane. Today, the same thing happened but after an hour or so there was a thump and the vibration disappeared. I thought a chunk of ice must have fell off the airplane or something. However, upon ...
