Re: Starter problem - AOG
Robin, Do you recall having some starts in excess of 10 seconds cranking time? Hi Robert I was joking just the other day - hence all the problems now, that DA 40.1078 starts first time, everytime with a cold start, and now I am on top of the hot starts the same with a hot start. The clunk is defini...

Re: Starter problem - AOG
Hello I am sorry to resurrect this thread, but it looks as if my starter motor has failed. Getting the clunk but no prop movement at all. Initially they thought it might be the battery as it was showing only 23.7 volts when trying to restart. Recharged the battery and the prop turned over but did no...

Re: DA40 on Dirt Strips
Hi Johnu
I am very cautious as I have been stranded due to prop damage. I just revisited my thread on retrieving my DA 40 from the outback in 2010.
I now own a second prop.
I will take 20 knots crosswind on land on a sealed strip rather than a gravel strip into wind.
Safe flying.

Re: I chickened out
Hi Antione May I suggest that you did NOT chicken out. You made a sensible command decision! Your post will help other IFR pilots to make a safe decision. Having an IFR rating means you have to consider the weather and the icing levels even more closely. You need to have options even if you have FIK...

Jean
What a great video! It was really interesting to see your home airport and what a great hangar you have.
A terrific way to start 2015.
Cheers

Re: How to accurately measure fuel quantity
Hello Yuri, Rick, Colin and Charbie
I agree with the above comments. I find the fuel totalizer to be very accurate.
When ever I fill my tanks I reset the totalizer, to 50 Gallons, then deduct 2 gallons. That way I should always be ahead.
I am very cautious with the fuel planning.
Regards

Re: Comm1 static and right mag failure
Hi Charbie
No further thoughts on the magneto failure.
Re Static on COMM 1, this happened to me once. I just needed to reset the squelch and it was fine. To my knowledge no-one had fiddled with the COMM1 settings.
Hope the repairs are quick and cheap.

Flying the IFR Approaches
I did my initial MECIR = multi-engine command instrument rating 5 years ago, and each subsequent renewal was in the DA 40 ie single engine. So I felt quite comfortable with the approaches VOR and the RNAV GNSS. My main challenge was the asymmetrics. Some things that I learned or had forgotten since ...
